Re: MiSTer Vs Original Nintendo Battletoads Clinger-Winger The Ultimate Lag Test

Ofcourse if cores are there on MiSTer, its hands down the best alternative since its 15 WATT power consumption. But for games / cores not on MiSTer, a mature emulator on Retroarch (non pi) can be good enough. Thank you for saying this. I thought I was the only person who cared about the power consumption. I once asked on Facebook if MiSTer was a g...

Tricked?

Plug your MiSTer into a consumer television and then tell us that it doesn't do native resolutions.

If you are using an flat-screen monitor then you haven't been tricked unless you have tricked yourself or not read the info correctly.

Re: 2-computer split-screen Amiga/Minimig core?

Amiga uses 35% of the Cyclone V, so it might be possible to do two player, but four player probably wouldn't fit unless some trickery was done?

How do I set all the number controls etc to work, while still being able to use my joypad? Can I set numbers on keyboard and rest of controls on pad? I'm sure I've seen this before but my memory is not what it once was. Thank you.

A good video. Would we even have hardware sim/emulation if we hadn't had the software emulation forefathers blazing a trail into the unknown?

Re: Why I hate emulation.

Emulation is great. I have Switch, Wii-U, Gamecube, Dreamcast, PS2, PS3 etc on my PC. Obviously the old systems gain a great deal from hardware simulation, but newer machines it's more or less redirected/translated api calls (if I understand how it's done correctly??) so lag isn't so much an issue any more - and newer machines have to deal with lag...

Discussion of Thoughts From the Terasic Team

This is why I got a pre-built setup. I wouldn't trust myself with all those pins and connectors. Thank you for posting Hazel, and congratulations to all at Terasic for creating a wonderful piece of kit that has made a lot of people very happy here via of Sorg and his magics, and all the core creators.

Well that's a shame and I hope it will be fixed. It would be nice to be able to develop for Next in the core. It would be nice to be able to create and save stuff in all (computer) cores to be honest. :)

Re: Would love to see more Classic Arcade cores

That looks great on the Speccy but it's very strange seeing the game in colour. When I played it - in a chip shop I think - it was a pure B&W game.

Or did I just imagine that? I'm sure it was monochrome.

MiSTer is not here to give us game roms, and doing so would open it up to takedowns and cease and desist orders I'm sure.

It's a faff perhaps, but we have to supply the copyrighted material ourselves.

Has anyone else had this graphical glitch on the ZX Next core? It seems to appear when the MiSTer ini is set up for 5x crop scaling, but vertical crop isn't activated on the Next core. If you change the vertical crop to "216" then it is fixed, but still present on "270". Obviously the core still works but the corruption in the s...

Re: Is MiSTer FPGA Overkill For My Needs?

I use my MiSTer on an Acer PC monitor and it works brilliantly - I think it's something like 2ms refresh.

On an LED or OLED TV things might be different - dependant on the processing of the image. If it has a "game mode" or just scan you will probably have a decent time.

Re: Is MiSTer FPGA Overkill For My Needs?

Are there any bare metal images for pi emulation? When I used retropie it used to do my head in how long it took linux and the front end to load, even on a fast SD card. With MiSTer I can turn it on and it boots in literally a couple of seconds, and I can just switch it off when I'm done without any safe shutdown scripts or other malarky. The pi mi...
