Re: Why Remove CRT Adjust?

Saturn core is work-in-progress, so I'm pretty sure the author had a reason to remove this functionality for now and it will most likely be back in later releases. Far as I know, adding CRT-adjust via some global "script" is impossible, it needs to be implemented on per-core basis and is not trivial (or it would have been done already a l...

PiMiga coming to MiSTer

PiMiga is a fairly popular ready-made Amiga distro for RPi, based on modern-look Amiga OS, and full of assorted bells and whistles, plus the usual set of demos/soft/games/modules/etc. The guy who made it (?) is porting it to MiSTer currently. I'm more of the old-school OS fan myself, but I know this kinda setup has quite a few fans, so if you're in...

Re: PC98 Core

Hi, does this runs also on consumer CRT? I can get a stable image using modelines from PC-88 (which in turn were borrowed from ao486) , but it's squashed - even after applying 16:9 ratio. On PC-88 it's the same, but this core has the Aspect Ratio: Full Screen option which helps to alleviate this problem. Try at your own risk: [Zet98] direct_video=...

Re: Elan Enterprise Core Release Candidate by RW FPGA-Dev Team

I've checked up on this core. There seems to be a newer version (2022115) available for download here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/elan-enterprise-84254732 Apparently there was also another update this year: https://github.com/Kyp069/ep, which hasn't been ported to MiSTer yet though. Translated forum message (link in 1st post) from the dev says: ...

You should ask about it on this forum: https://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/

There are some people there who know CPC hardware inside out.

Re: Analogue N64 Product

2. Analogue 3D does not play copyrighted rom files, it plays legacy game cartridges via the cartridge slot

They will block flashcarts? 8-)

3. Analogue 3D is not designed using software emulation. It is designed using a specialty hardware chip called an FPGA, which operates on a transistor level implementation of its functionality.

Re: The “Cycle Accurate” Conundrum and Is There a List of Cores That Are?

There is really no “one true” A1200 speed anyway. Of course there is - it's the speed of bare bones A1200. Any add ons people used later are completely different matter, just like it'd be with any other machine and subsequent MiSTer cores. That's not to say other features are not important, of course, but they don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Re: The “Cycle Accurate” Conundrum and Is There a List of Cores That Are?

Speed might not be the most important factor but it is still important. I'd like to be able to fire up A1200 and have it run at exactly the same speed as original hardware, just for the sake of it in the first place, but also for historical accuracy.

Ok I will try! So, in CRT TV 15khz hooked up via analog board VGA to scart and composite_sync=1 and vga_scaler=0, the two resolutions displayed on video info have to be always the same? I mean: if I'm in a NES game and the resolution (native resolution of the machine) showed in the first row of video info "popup" is 256×240px, I MUST hav...

If the cores display properly without artifacts despite this rez being reported then it's rather strange. Perhaps try with a fresh mister.ini from here.

Hi, I am really confused about the Bios Files for PCXT... there are plenty on github but the description is not clear to me. There are 3 required in the settings: PCXT, Tandy and EC00 Bios (what is that anyway?) I also read the part about the Python scripts wich create roms, but I tried in terminal and I have no clue how to execute them... These a...

Re: Mapping Keyboard to Gamepad?

Perhaps the solution here would be the ability to predefine joy2key mappings in an MGL file? But you would still need to create a bunch of files to launch your games. It's an interesting idea. Doing it once per game sure beats having to remap controls everytime you want to play. Another solution is to use the core's OS to run a TSR to map the core...

Re: Mapping Keyboard to Gamepad?

I'd have thought Retroarch, big and popular as it is, is enough of a model ;) In general, on PC you can also do it via Joy2Key or some other program like that, which is quite an universal solution. In any case, I'm not a designer/dev - it's just a feature request from a user. I don't know how feasible it is. There are some intereting comments in th...

Re: Mapping Keyboard to Gamepad?

It's a step forward, but it's not really solving what my original Github request was about - saveable per-game configs. As it is, it can help with some more generic buttons, or if you are only playing one game for a longer period of time with a specific remap. But ideally, it'd be great to be able to configure and save keymaps for different games -...

Re: XT/Tandy Archives, HDD Images, Compilations, Top 300, Play It By Year, etc.

I've updated the 1981-1989 MS-DOS "XT era" collection to v1.0 (search archive.org for "play it by year msdos"). This is mainly to bring the Tandy/PCjr directories in line with the much-revised Tandy/PCjr standalone pack. The other big addition is an archive with individual games with LFN filenames, so you can use them in DOSbox ...

Re: Amiga VGA Output Should it Fill The Screen?

It’s not that complicated (although of course people would run NTSC games like Defender of the Crown incorrectly in PAL at the time since their A500s didn’t have an obvious software-based way to switch into NTSC mode) — US game publishers like EA and Cinemaware are quite obviously made for and in NTSC resolutions and CPU speeds, then there are the...

Re: Amiga VGA Output Should it Fill The Screen?

Indeed — except for #2 in your examples, that’s a game from a US game publisher (Electronic Arts), and should be run in NTSC. It will then fill the screen :) Sure, but if you were an Amiga kid in the PAL zone back then, that's what you'd most likely see regardless of a game's origins :) The whole PAL vs NTSC thing is a bit of a rabbit hole anyway....

Re: Amiga VGA Output Should it Fill The Screen?

So yes it all seems to be normal except that in the MiSTer I have this offset upwards. This is actually how it is in PAL on real hardware. And MiSTer displays 1:1 Amiga image over analogue. Most micros had borders but the image was more or less centered, Amiga is an a exception. Examples: 1 2 3 Flight Of The Amazon Queen (Amiga 500)(RGB)(PAL)(Sony...

Re: The State of DACs for the MiSTer and Direct Video

My biggest gripe is when people develop and sell products and not tell people the product is not meeting reference standards or show test results as I think every product should be properly tested and run at reference levels, that's just a given and no excuses there. I don't know which products you are referring to, but I'm pretty sure the ones fr...

Re: The State of DACs for the MiSTer and Direct Video

It's a nice write up, thanks a lot. I think the "No one should use the AG6200 based DACs however unless you just can’t use anything else and the world depends on you getting a video signal of some kind." is a bit of an overdramatization though. I've been using one for over a year when I first got a MiSTer (with high quality TV sets), just...
