Re: So Robert Peip (FPGAzumSpass) Is Working on a New Core...

N-Gage is a phone so it could be rather complex, depending on how much of the phone side is needed for gaming. Game-com is probably much simpler, seems even less capable than a gameboy, although you'd still have to find someone interested in doing the substantial work.

Re: How Do I Keep the Game Boy/Color Cores From Desynching?

Gameboy/color have a "buffer" setting that is also important. If it's off, HDMI video will drop whenever software turns the screen off, which was often done when loading/switching to a new screen.

Re: The Result of My Search for a Great MiSTer Display

Well yeah, you might be waiting for stuff yet to come out this year. :P But it's probably just going to be the same panel with different case and scalers. At least that one has tate built in already... I don't know what happened to the 60hz response time in this monitor. At 240hz its a blinding 3ms, so 60hz=12 ms is a linear relationship. Maybe it ...

Re: The Result of My Search for a Great MiSTer Display

"Best" is probably one of those newer 27" 1440p OLED monitors attached to a VESA mount that allows tate rotation. But that is quite expensive. Still as far as flat panels go, you can't beat the motion response or perfect blacks of OLED, plus the Misters' new HDR support can make filters look good on a real HDR display.

Re: Linux Terminal Text off Left, Top, and Bottom

I've seen sync issues with the default video modes. Try spelling it out instead like this:

video_mode=1920,1080,60,cvt

The cvt is optional, it may work better with or without.

Hell you got a 1200p display, why not use all of it? Then you can do a 5x integer scale without having to crop.

video_mode=1920,1200,60,cvt

Re: Samsung F27T702QQI (2560x1440) Main Menu Glitches

I've had weird sync issues on my C1 in the menu core using video_mode=8. If I spell it out though (video_mode=1920,1080,60) then they go away. You might try that. (Although I don't think that works for 2560x1440. Best you can do is video_mode=1920,1440,60.)

Re: Direct Video and Scandoubler

Well, a CRT generally can't tell the difference. The digital resolution going out of the Mister's HDMI might be 2048 wide, but once its analog a CRT just sees a rate of change for the analog signal and follows it as long as it can keep up with the sync side. An LCD monitor looking at analog has to guess a resolution and sample it so maybe that's mo...

Re: Direct Video and Scandoubler

Doesn't the 931 have a DVI input? If so I would strongly recommend using a cheap HDMI->DVI adapter, it will give you a pristine signal and the Mister will do a better job scaling and applying filters than the monitor will. Turn off direct_video and set the video_mode to match the monitor's native resolution. (video_mode=1280,1024,60,cvt) and go fro...

Re: Does the LG CX or C1 Have Additional Latency in 1920x1440 and 2560x1440?

My life in Gaming has a video on the C1 and C2, check out this timestamp for 1440p results. Basically the C1 in 1920x1440 is 8 ms more than 1080p on standard or BFI modes, but seems to be an identical 2ms in boost mode. (watch a bit more and you can see how much worse the C2 is!) Their methodology was to basically plug a time sleuth into a retrotin...

Re: New HDR Settings

I will admit I've returned to using color gamut="auto" due to accuracy. Its not just a question of more or less saturated, it feels like there's a red shift or something. So with "auto gamut" I instead turn up the TV color to 60, and have the option to turn it up more if I want more saturation that way.

Re: VGA Mode Changing for 720x400 and 640x400

So in the bad old days, you had to manually specify the parameters for the horizontal and vertical blank as well as the pixel clock. Although you can still go that route if you want more precision and control over size/position. Recent-ish the video_mode will now calculate standard timings if you just supply it vertical and horizontal # of pixels a...

Finally trying out the updates on my C1. HLG is looking pretty good now at the TV's recommended HDR settings, as long as HDR tone mapping is set to "ON". I also prefer color gamut=native instead of auto, seems a little more saturated at the recommended 55 color. The max/avg nits settings in the ini do nothing for this TV, but it sounds li...

Re: MegaAGS 2022.06.06 Available

It seems like PAL 5x cut does not want to work if your shared directory is on an external drive (usb0). With nothing set in the .ini (either shared= or completely ommitted), the core does create minimig_vadjust.dat and Disk.info in usb0 if it is not present, so part of the core is looking in the right place. (obviously you want to use these plus ag...

Dunno if it's the copper itself or that the 68020 is like... 10x faster than it should be! It's not even in the ballpark of a correct CPU speed, never mind cycle accuracy! Amiga DM added footstep sounds and Amiga CSB added a magic automap, some cool things missing from CSBWin since its based on disassembly of the Atari ST version. Although it might still win out of sheer convenience.

PC DOS DM has the footsteps and an interesting ending FMV. Don't recall if CSB was ported.

Re: General question regarding 50/60hz and composite adapters on CRT

You can easily control horizontal size and positioning on a real CRT by using the scaler to create a video_mode and adjusting the horizontal blanking parameters. You can also control vertical positioning by messing with the vblank, but size might be harder to adjust unless you change the refresh rate from the original (which is totally possible wit...

Re: General question regarding 50/60hz and composite adapters on CRT

Yes the line count is different for 50hz vs 60hz. 50hz needs more lines to maintain the same horizontal refresh (15 khz). So the same 320x200 is going to look more squished at 50hz because more black lines are being "drawn" above and below. There was such a thing as PAL60 for a time, where you had pal-style composite color output at 60hz ...

Re: General question regarding 50/60hz and composite adapters on CRT

NTSC/PAL also refer to very distinct color encoding standards when it comes to composite video. Its likely the Mister plus whatever boards is still spitting out NTSC style composite color even when in 50 hz. When your TV reports NTSC it might be referring more to the color standard, it looks like the refresh rate is changing properly. The Atari ST ...

Re: Direct Video and Sync on Green on VGA

composite_sync=1 has no interaction with RGsB, else you would need it on for component video (which is just ypbpr=1 and SoG). I think it just crams composite sync into either the H or V channel. Composite sync being completely different from sync-on-composite (zero chance for confusion there...) I think this article tries to explain.

Don't know what adapter to use, but I do know that turning on SoG 1) does not affect direct video, and 2) does not erase HV sync even on the VGA side.

Just using vga->component breakout should be simple? Since the same sync as composite will be there on the Green line?
