HDMI to DVI, no question. You will need to extract audio via the IO board.
You will also need to change the video mode to the appropriate resolution in MiSTer.ini .

Re: Coin mech and daemonbite arcade
These coin comparator mechs are all very similar and this should do fine. DC12v - This is your 12v+ (red) from your power supply (if there is a second wire, just isolate it with electrical tape). Coin - This will be the pin on the Pro Micro dedicated to your coin input. Ground - This will be the 12v ground (black) from your power supply. Counter - ...

Re: Looking for some help with my questions
Some cores require very tight timings that DDR3 cannot provide. SDRAM, you can read about it on the wiki here and there are schematics to build your own here . The cores are all open source, take a look for yourself? Perhaps start with Neo Geo? There are links to the Github repos for each core from the wiki. ScummVM could be considered a software ...

Re: Is my SD Card socket broken?
Presumably the DE10-Nano boots just fine? Have you tried any other micro SD cards? If so, do they all insert with this behaviour?
It's been a while since I've had to eject the micro SD but I remember it being a snug fit. It could just be that your particular micro SD has a rough edge.

Re: What encoder to choose
I built a cabinet quite recently with a MiSTer and self-made Daemonbite adapters. If you have basic soldering skills and can follow the instructions on Github I'd totally recommend using them and you'd save money in the process (make sure you compile with debounce enabled).
And yes, one encoder per player.

Re: DVI and sound no IO board
If the converter extracts HDMI audio then it should be fine with "dvi_mode = 0". I'm pretty sure the purpose of dvi_mode is to just disable HDMI audio out as DVI does not have audio pins on the connector.
If you're potentially spending $20-30 you're probably just better off just getting an IO board...

Re: What componensts dp I need for full MiSter setup
There isn't really a "full MiSTer setup", setups can vary wildly depending on what you intend to use it for. I'd recommend watching some of the better curated YouTube videos and reading through the wiki to get a better handle on what you want out of MiSTer. The only must-haves (and this too is subjective!) are a DE10-Nano, a decent power ...

The serial modes for the GBA core are not implemented as far as I know and there are multiple modes (5 I think?). This would be a pretty massive undertaking due to its complexity so I shouldn't expect it any time soon, if at all.
You can try the GBA2P core for local single-MiSTer multiplayer, it's pretty awesome.

Why not create a dedicated shared folder with a user with read-only permissions for the MiSTer only? This way you don't have to worry about insecurely stored credentials?
Re: SyncThing
That doesn't sound like the best of ideas. MiSTer isn't really meant to be used this way; the linux configuration is purposefully lean and the filesystem is intended to be largely read-only. Adding another service running in the background is asking for trouble imho. I know there are scripts to allow you to sync saves with Google Drive or RClone a...

Re: MiSTer FPGA with an SSD
Using commodity HDDs or SSDs is generally orders of magnitude cheaper than using high-capacity Micro SD cards. The speed advantages of using SSDs over HDDs is also pretty negligible over USB 2.0 and these older systems only had very slow optical media drives anyway (1x CD transfer rate is only 150KBps) so using cheap external storage is absolutely...

Re: Are PVMs still unique?
$1000?! That's ridiculous! I love my PVMs and bought most 10-15 years ago but I wouldn't dream of paying that sort of money for one now. Sure the PVM/CRT experience for retro games feels more authentic, but aging tubes/electronics for silly money doesn't make it a nice rabbit hole to go down these days. You'll get far more mileage out of an OLED, R...

Re: Any tips for capturing MiSTer in OBS? Audio out of sync
I've had similar issues with a number of USB 3.0 capture devices. YMMV but I found switching to a different USB port using a different controller completely solved the problem, my motherboard had some ports on USB 3.2 gen 2 and regardless of drivers, all my capture devices refused to work on them. Failing that perhaps try "vsync_adjust=0"...

Action 52 uses mapper 228 which is apparently supported by the MiSTer core, I have a vague recollection of trying this out a while back and it worked fine. I'll take a look later.

An external HDMI capture device would be required.
To the best of my knowledge Linux does not have access to the output post framebuffer for capture of the upscaled and filtered images.

Re: Can Dolphinbar be used for wii mote sensor bar?
I can't see why not. The Wii "Sensor Bar" is a bit of a misnomer, in of itself it has no sensing capabilities at all. It, and by extension all of the third-party accessories are just a series of IR LEDs that the IR camera built into the Wiimotes detect and use to calculate the relative position of the controller. If you want to try this o...

Re: Merged FileSystem - USB for Games only?
USB drive support was added over a year ago. If you retain the default directory structure on the USB device, when plugged in, MiSTer should mount everything to be visible in the respective cores menu. It is very straightforward and works flawlessly. I have a drive set aside solely for CD games. So yes, you can have your SD card solely for cores an...

Re: Building a new MiSTer would like to know what's a good monitor and audio device
Freesync support is irrelevant for MiSTer. No, it's not irrelevant. While MiSTer doesn't support variable refresh rate (VRR), VRR monitors are likely to accommodate the arbitrary refresh rates native to the systems MiSTer emulates. Yes apologies; I mean Freesync as a feature is irrelevant but you are right, VRR monitors are more likely to handle t...

Re: Building a new MiSTer would like to know what's a good monitor and audio device
Either of those monitors should be more than adequate for MiSTer, monitors in general tend to be more accepting of arbitrary refresh rates put out by retro cores. Your mileage may vary with the 4k TV but typically I've not run into any problems with anything semi-modern. Freesync support is irrelevant for MiSTer. mt32-Pi is great to have and fun to...
