Has anybody tried C16 core on a 15Khz CRT?

EDIT: I've started this topic to inquire about boot.rom (see posts below), but now I think my problem is video related. When I start the C16 core it does not sync at all. MiSTer is connected to a CRT TV via Direct Video and VGA-SCART cable.

Has anybody managed to get it working on a similar setup?

I think it's the similar case with VIC - 20, wiki also says to put boot.rom into the appropriate dir but I can't find it either.

It says you can optional put a boot.rom in there like jiffydos.
Didn't you try to start the core?

I did, but it does not sync at all (CRT TV via Direct Video). I thought it's because of the lack of that .rom, because wiki says it's a 240p core.

EDIT: I've just tried the VIC core - it works fine, without the boot.rom. So I suppose my real issue with C16 is video related. Perhaps it does not output 15khz...

I have it working on my Trinitron Wega 27 inch (circa 2004). Using VGA to component with SOG on, YPbPr on..etc. When initially launched the screen was rolling because all of these cores seem be default PAL on launch which is a pain. I blindly found the force NTSC option however and once active it looks excellent.

It has nothing to do with the boot.rom. Perhaps your TV cannot handle the PAL signal at all so you see nothing. The Wega could not handle it, but at least I were able to see a rolling image and work my way through it to change to NTSC.

Unless you are in PAL territory? You mentioned SCART so...

In any case, rest assured C16 works fine on a CRT consumer TV via direct video.

Thanks for confirming it works. Not sure why it does not work on mine, my TV is vanilla PAL (and handles NTSC) and all the other cores work fine, thsi one just is not syncing at all.

It grabs the video frequency from the Kernal (which is why it defaults on PAL for many people I am guessing, as the boot.rom floating around use a PAL one).
Without the boot.rom the first time I tried to run it months ago, I'm pretty sure I experienced your issue akeley, but not anymore.

Ok mate, do you have a link for the boot.rom? I had a gander but it's floating in some unknown regions

You can download all kernels are all Commodore 8-bit machines from funet.

Ok, thanks. Have downloaded PAL kernel (318004-04.bin), renamed to boot.rom, put it in C16 dir - still nothing :/

Content of boot.rom: C1541 + kernal + basic + func_low + func_high
Each part is 16KB.
You can load only part of whole ROM, for example only C1541+kernal (JiffyDOS).

I'm guessing you need the C1541 part and concatenate them, at the very least.

I didn't have to merge any kernels. I added the NTSC-M kernel for the C16 to the C16 game folder, but didn't do anything else. I am not even sure if that addition did anything at all for me.

When you say the picture is not "syncing", what do you get? Any display at all? What is the model of the TV?

Sorry, forgot about this. By "not syncing" I mean the screen is black and I can only see the TV's green A/V icon sort of changing from one source to another, appearing and disappearing. TV is a PAL Trinitron KV-21FQ (NTSC works fine on it).

I've tried TI99 core yesterday and it's exactly the same behaviour.
