Video codec for dos based or windows 98 games using FMVs?

Unread post by Neocaron »

Hello fellas ! :D

Is there any way to get smooth video playback on games using fmvs as the main gameplay element? Thinking Myst, Versailles 1685?
Looking it up, Versailles uses the Cryomni3D also called the Omni3D engine created by Cryo for all these games:

Versailles 1685 (supported)
Atlantis: The Lost Tales
Atlantis II: Beyond Atlantis
Aztec: The Curse in the Heart of the City of Gold
China: The Forbidden City
Egypt 1156 B.C.: Tomb of the Pharaoh
Egypt II: The Heliopolis Prophecy
Versailles II: Testament of the King
Zero Zone

and while they do run on the ao486 using win98, it's a slide show. But since they use prerended images interconnected with fmvs, could it be a simple codec issue that needs to be string to the game renderer?
(Versailles 1685 run in dos mode by the way)

If anyone has an idea ...

You all have a lovely day
