[Apple II Core] joystick left and right direction

Unread post by PeFClic »

Nice to be in this new forum :D

The joystick support is broken in the Apple II core.

First message in the forum, but only one complaint... all is working nicely :)

I noticed that too. For me left and right works but not up and down. It also is the case in the ao486 core - both systems originally used analog readouts.
It happes with these gamepads/joysticks I tried:
- Logitech Rumblepad 2 - wired
- Logitech F710 Wireless
- Xbox 360 Afterglow wired controller by www.pdp.com

The other cores work well - but I reckon the games and software I tried only used the digital atari style readout (C64, A2600, Genesis).

I just tried Frogger with my 8bitdo M30 and my PS wireless controller. No issues.
Try running the controller setup again from the Main Menu.
Don't skip the "Stick X: Tilt Right" or "Stick Y: Tilt Down"

This is how I configured my controller: https://youtu.be/Ck4BAt82lHM

It seems a lot of people skip that step.

Thanks, I also skipped the tilt so now it's working. Good tutorial.

The Apple II original Joystick from back in the day was an analog Joystick.

Controllers with a D-pad only does not work, but controllers with analog thumb sticks do work as the Joystick in the Apple II core.

So use a PlayStation or Xbox style controller with the Apple II.
It is my great regret that we live in an age that is proud of machines that think and suspicious of people who try to.

Thanks, I've started using my MiSTer with a 8bitdo SF30 Pro with two analog sticks, and now, I use only my M30 especially for the NeoGeo core.
I've got back my SF30 and now I can play Boulder Dash again... Thank you very much !
