Help with TRS-80 Please

Unread post by Piplup87 »

Hi there. I'm very new to classic computer emulation, and this is my first post on these forums, so please forgive me if something about my question below is ignorant in any way. I've included some basic information about my setup, hopefully this helps narrow down what might be going on.

I'm trying to get the TRS-80 core to work. The About page says I'm using MiSTer v210305 and TRS-80 v200618. My device setup includes the IO board, powered USB hub, and 128 RAM. I'm using a USB keyboard (an old Lenovo keyboard) and using HDMI out to the monitor.

I followed the readme page on Github, and read up on basic TRS-80 stuff here: https://www.classic-computers.org.nz/sy ... ctions.htm
And I grabbed the NEWDOS 2.0 disk image and the Zork 1 disk image from here: https://www.classic-computers.org.nz/sy ... rchive.htm

When I launch the core I see the screen of "@" symbols. I then Mount to drive 0 the NEWDOS 2.0 image. And nothing happens. Wait a couple minutes but still nothing. I try resetting, mounting both disk images and resetting, still nothing.

I found this video for starting out and loading from DISK images: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PcCY43dnVU

I tried following that video step by step to make sure I wasn't missing a key step, but nothing.

The readme also says I can launch directly to BASIC if I press Esc after resetting from the ODS menu, but that doesn't seem to work either.

I also tried loading the TRSDOS disk images from this page (model 1 v.21 and v2.3): http://cpmarchives.classiccmp.org/trs80 ... sk_dos.htm

Not sure what I should be trying next. Any help you can lend me would be greatly appreciated, thanks very much.

Do you have a "boot.rom" file in the games folder? You need to grab a boot rom.

It looks like that was exactly it. I was wondering if it was just an obvious thing I was missing. Thank you so much for your help alanswx, it's greatly appreciated.
