MSX Core - Odd issues with some ROMs - anyone else?

Unread post by JudgeDrokk »

Hello! MiSTer provided lots of great things and very little issue turn up, at least for me.

The MSX core has been puzling me with some random problems with regards to running some games...

These are (from a few letter B titles I tried yesterday)...

1 - Bruce Lee (black screen)

2 BC Quest for Tires (cannot die)

3 Buck Rogers (shoot once and you loose control and ship fires continuously)

4 Beach Head (wont let me choose joystick... the option just jumps back to keys a second later)

Very random issues I know - has anyone tried these games?

Ive tried more than one version of the RBF, inserted the correct .config file in configs folder, also tried different versions of .VHD
with various updates of Sofarun booter. Right up to Feb 2021 editions.

Anyone had these issues or beaten them?

Thanks!

Just want to add Xanadu (Dragon Slayer II) to the list of games potentially not working. For me, it boots to the title screen, but doesn't seem to respond to any keyboard or gamepad input, so I can't start the game.

There are a few other reports of random games having issues on the GitHub issues page, fwiw.

The Xanadu cartridge has 8k of SRAM, used for saving the game, and the game won't start without it. This would have to be implemented in the core.

The original R-Type cartridge has a kinda unique mapper (custom chip plus 2 romchips all rolled into one). You'll need to find a hacked ROM that's been modified to use the ASCII-16K mapper. Look for the ones sized 512K, try them all and you'll win:)
