Video and audio drops out

Unread post by calle81 »

Hi,

I updated my Mister for the first time in a couple of weeks and now I get weird video issues with the SNEScore. The video and audio drops out several times per minute. The other cores I tested run fine.

Here are my video settings that used to work without any issue:
video_mode=13
hdmi_limited=1
vsync_adjust=2
vscale_mode=1

Now after the update I have to set
vsync_adjust=1
for the SNES core to run properly.

Here's my mster.ini: https://pastebin.com/rTHftEB2

Am I the only one experiencing this issue? Nothing has changed on my side except the core updates.

Thankful for any help

First.

Code: Select all

; 0 - 1280x720@60
; 1 - 1024x768@60
; 2 - 720x480@60
; 3 - 720x576@50
; 4 - 1280x1024@60
; 5 - 800x600@60
; 6 - 640x480@60
; 7 - 1280x720@50
; 8 - 1920x1080@60
; 9 - 1920x1080@50
;10 - 1366x768@60
;11 - 1024x600@60
;
; custom mode: hact,hfp,hs,hbp,vact,vfp,vs,vbp,Fpix_in_KHz
;   video_mode=1280,110,40,220,720,5,5,20,74250
video_mode=13
Why video_mode=13 and what resolution is that?
Try 8 or 9 instead.

Second.
Is it HDMI audio or do you use 3,5 analog/toslink?
Direct hdmi to TV or any reciver/switch in between?

Video mode 13 has superior clarity on my 4K monitor. That's why I use it. Only HDMI, straight into the monitor and as I said it just recently broke after an update. Other cores work fine in this mode.

Anything over 1080p is overclocking the pixel clock on the DE-10.
And like all overclocking it is hit or miss or anything between.
For example 1080 have around 130hzMHz, 1920x1200 have around 193MHz pixel clock (the specific modeline timings can change that up/down a bit of course).
1920x1440 have around 234MHz pixel clock, 2048x1536 have around 267MHz pixel clock.

Also overclocking can lead to wear on the chip and after a while it needs a bit more voltage to be stable.
Which is well known in the cpu world and for example my intel 4790k OC to 4,7GHz have needed two small voltage bumps to be stable under the 5-6 years i had it and that with nowhere near double the speed.
So i wold not be surprised if it can happen on the DE-10 nanos pixel clock too.

And how many chips (cpu/gpu/memory/fpga/and so on) do you know of that can be overclocked too more then double the speed?

On the mister 1200p works for most people, 1440p seems more rare that it will work and over that is very rare (from what i have read here and on reddit and the old mister part on atari forum for around 2 years now).
I can not get anything past 1080p on my 1440p monitor but if it is because the monitor or that my DE-10 do not want to go higher i do not know.

IF this is the problem for you or not is another question!

This one, it's not really a gaming monitor: https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27UD5 ... ed-monitor
