Black screen before stage begins in Dick Tracy (SMS)

CosmicFX did a live stream yesterday on Twitch where he plays some SMS games on MiSTer. He's got a black screen after stage 2-1 of Dick Tracy:

No-Intro ROM. Same one I've used in the tests, where I couldn't reproduce it!
I went all the way up to 3-1 with no black screen. Anyone else has seen this before?I think it's related to video transitions / resolution changes (?) as the sound still works. Once he dies and level restarts, he's got video again.
