New Videopac G7000 / Oddysey 2 Core for MiSTer

Unread post by rampa »

Hi. There is another version of the Videopac/Oddysey core suporting a lot of FPGA (MiSTer also included, of course) based on the same sources but with a lot of bug fixes and new features.

At the time of this writting, most games are working OK. only a very few of the have some graphic glitches, but the development is very active from some spanish developers (most of them videopac lovers)

You can download binaries (also sources, of course) from https://github.com/RW-FPGA-devel-Team/V ... 0/releases

Feel free to open issues in github if you spot some bug or improvement.

Thank you !
Do you plan at some point to update the core on main repo with those last updates, fixes ?

Im not shure how this works. My only core in the official repo was ported by sorgelig from mist. I assume the official repo chooses the core, not the core to be official. Also is not an "exclusive" MiSTer core. it supports multiple FPGA and it changes a bit the structure of the sources.

Hi,

Sorg can add you to the mister-devel group on github and then you can have write permission to the repo. Generally authors are encouraged to update their own cores, and keep control of them. The only thing is on the MiSTer-Devel, the directory structure would be formatted like all the other mister cores so that it will work with the auto-updater. PM me or Sorg if you want to be added.

This is great news! Please add this to the main repo @rampa because the Odyssey 2 and the second generation of consoles need more love

Edit: After testing about 50 games I can say that this core is definitely ahead of the current Odyssey 2 core.

Thank you very much alan!

In this core, the directory structure is a bit different form the mister cores (due to the multifpga syn directory) may be i can merge with the official core (from Kitrinx) doing a pull request and after this, mantaining it on the same repo.....

At the moment, i only have issues with two games (among 300+)

vp_28 (volleyball)
vp_12 (take the money and run)

if you spot some other, please report!

it has been discused some times, but these cartridges are a full Z80 computers! they only use the cosnole as keyboard and screen. I have the schematics and may be they can be implemented in the future.

In the TODO is also the videopac G7400+ but still looking for documentation of the secondary VDP. may be we can recreate this from the emulators.

Thank you for sharing this!! I the O2 is the very first console my family got when I was a kid. I'm very happy the voice module was implemented in this core. I hope the voice gets updated cause my favorite game KC Krazy Chase voice is only partially working.

Yes, still under heavy development.... I have the console and carts, but not the voice hardware. Looking for one....

I'm very happy this core gets finally a huge overall update! Thank you so much for your effort! Gunfighter finally works, yeah!
I can hear the sound got improved. I can't wait for the G7400 + features and I'm looking forward for less distorted voice module sounds.
INCREDIBLE, HAHAHA!

Good effort! You could potentially reach out to Kevtris, who implemented the voice add on into his core for the NT Mini, he always says he is happy to share any documentation he has.

I tried the core with a couple of games and it works really well! This is great, as I have fun memories of playing Videopac as a kid at my cousin's house.

I used the binary from the first post, and it works fine with my setup. I use a VGA CRT connected to analog output and forced_scandoubler=1 in settings.

The latest updated version from official shows a very distorted image on analog output. HDMI is fine.
