Neo Geo Arcade Core

Unread post by lomdar67 »

Blackwine adapted Furrtek's Neo Geo core so it can load rom sets using mra files:

Yes and no. There was a "work in progress" post a few days ago. But now it is actually released...

I'm not really getting the advantage tbh.

Since this release doesn't include any improvements to the fidelity of the core itself, I'm not seeing any reason to substitute the 'console structure' for the 'arcade structure', unless one feels the urge to experiment with alternate rom/image files and the general integrity of his storage as is.

Last I've checked, the NeoGeo core can be switched on the fly between MVS/AES modes, so what's the motivation? 🤔

if like me one of the places you use mister is inside an arcade cabinet, this make my life much quicker as i can have just a list of neo geo games to pick from, all i have to do is choose one and it boots straight into the game.

blackwine has done this in my thinking mainly for arcade cabinet enthusiasts, as lots of people use mister this way inside an arcade cab.

There's at least one MVS game I remember which uses non-standard controls (The Irritating Maze). Moving that game to the arcade core pile with dedicated control mapping would make accessing it easier.

Yeah, that makes sense. Never crossed my mind because -alas- I don't have a cab :(
