Update Vs Update All

Unread post by Jlz »

Hello everyone,

I'm super new to the MiSTer and I'm a little confused.

I got a pre built system, and tried to run "update" and then "update all" and now I've got duplicate directories: 'computer' and 'computers', and also 'console' and 'consoles'

Is there any way I can fix this without using a desktop pc?

Cheers!!

I'm not sure there is a way..

I was going to suggest using the Desktop Linux to delete the appropriate folders.. but if you haven't got that installed, without access to a PC I'm not sure how you could install it.

you might have to live with it for now... or visit a friend/family member with a PC or maybe a local library.. take your SDCard and delete the duplicates. (delete the ones that end in S.. consoleS and ComputerS)

Try logging in via built-in Linux (F9 then login "root" then "1") and using Midnight Commander (type mc to launch it)
You can gain access you need from there I think

Cheers guys,

Loads of people I know have PCs, so I'll just take my card over to someone's house later on.

I've got to say, I'm extremely impressed with the MiSTer so far, and I've only just scratched the surface in terms of cores.

I just wish I'd bought one sooner!

If you connect a keyboard to your Mister/press F9/log into onboard Linux and use Midnight Commander (mc) then you won't need to leave home

I've tried pressing F9 and nothing happens. I tried resetting and holding F9 and that didn't work either, so I must be missing something

that's odd, you should either get the command prompt or a message saying 'if you're seeing this message you need to change [a particular setting.. can't remember them both, but one was] vga_scaler=1 in the mister.ini' I know this cos I tried it the minute EeDee posted it and I got the message, changed my vga settings and then got the command prompt.

Plug-in a keyboard, press f9, login with username "root" and password "1", type "cd /media/fat/" and press enter, and then learn how to use the rm command from the terminal.

If the F9 key on your keyboard doesn't work, please tell us what keyboard you have (picture of it, make model, etc...).

I've managed to get my SD card to a friend's computer to delete the duplicate folders

Originally my F12 worked to get the menu up, but i think I've made an error with mapping, because now I can get the menu up with a button on my 8bitdo, none of the F-keys seem to work. The space bar still seems to function to skip a button when mapping inside cores.

I'm not worried at the moment because it's a really ropey wireless keyboard, and I plan to get a new one soon.
