WiFi can't connect to other mesh nodes

I have an Orbi mesh (AX6000) and Wifi (Edimax 7822ULC) connects fine to the node that it first connected to. However it won't connect to any other nodes. If I run the WiFi script I can see the various nodes and it will even ask for the password. It works perfectly when it's within range of its original node. Is there some config I need to change? Is there any possibility it's trying to connect based on MAC instead of SSID?
