Safe to leave the MiSTer "always on" ?

Unread post by Airbag »

Hello,

do you think it is safe to let the MiSTer always powered, "idling" on the main menu ?
By the way, does anyone know what its power consumption in this mode ?

Thanks.

Mine hasn't been turned off for six months. No idea what actual draw is.

What the point to let something on if you don't use it... Too lazy to buy a switch or to unplug the jack dc connector ?
You will say it's not costing "much" in electricity, but this "cost" argument is as stupid as people using it, energy is not free to produce (either carbon either extremely dangerous waste that will last for millennia) and earth is dying if you are not aware. So waste it stupidly in idle thing is cretinous, sorry i'm a killjoy.

Cretinous?

You might want to Google 'vampire power' before you sail your green ship much further.

It's like any computer as long as it's properly cooled it will not damage your DE-10 Nano. If you don't have a case you are also risking a short.

I'm not sure if it's 'safe' to turn it off. I banged my head on the shelf trying to disconnect it earlier. Ouch.

The longer I leave mine on the more chance there is of me playing Ghouls n Ghosts which in turn leads to me turning into an irate uncontrollable monster.

Just turn it off personally. No reason to waste the electricity at all. For reliability concerns and why they aren't much of a concern at all (especially considering this was a stress test for each under heavy load the whole time)... attached is the results of Intel's internal testing for reliability, and here is the link to the paper - https://docdro.id/5PEuIIm

HAHAHA Excellent @allyourbasekris,
Without joking, this happened to me when I wanted to disconnect my Mister and I shouted, why in the name of god there is no power off function.

You can always use a multiplug extension that has switches per plug... problem solved.

Thank you @Newsdee I even didn't know that this was existing. I had a look to the web and found that Amazon has EU version of 3 or more multiplug extension like this. Good catch.
