Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future
Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future
CPS3
Midway T Unit
Sega Arcade boards up to Model 1 (System 16A, 16B, 18, 24, 32 etc.)
Sega Model 1
Sega Model 2
Sega STV
Sega 32X
Sega Saturn
Sony Playstation
3DO
Atari Jaguar
FM Towns
Pentium + 3DFX based PC core
I’m afraid Sega Model 2 and that PC core won’t fit on the FPGA but I’m hoping. All these developers have been working miracles up to this point so who knows.

Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future
I think for me the most important core for the Mister will be the most demanding core possible on the platform so we can say, this is it guys! We touched the ceiling of what we can do, we can't port any higher spec cores on the platform. My guess is that it will probably be a N64 core or a 3dfx card combine with a Pentium like processor core. This would probably require an hybrid between FPGA simulation and arm emulation but it should be possible. ^^
Other than that, I'm already so happy with the Mister and PSX and Saturn core coming up are just the cherry on top! The devs here are just geniuses! Big congrats! You're the historians of gaming, making sure the video game legacy never fades away! Thank you for that.

Doesn't count. Immature and not under current development.

Thanks for that. I will test it for sure, that looks very cool!
Can I suggest you open a new thread to make a proper annoucement? That way you may get more visibility of your work.
Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future
Mmmmm VAX would be nice, though trying to get the OS could be problematic .. I think you have to register for it..
NEXT computer I think was talked about before but the conclusion is its not yet do-able probably just over the line of what the FPGA in the mister can do.. That said there is always NextStep 486 but the current A0486 core is SX only and NextStep needs a full 486 with fpu..
Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future
IDK works perfectly for me .. I have no complaints .. I think the crux of the issue is it has bios hard coded in .. the dev made some comments about it.. but I do think the development has slowed down .. would be nice if they released the sources so others could work on it, make it official ..

Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future
Spectravideo SVI-328 (very close to MSX hardware)
Cray XMP (now that I've learned that it would actually fit on the MiSTer)
Quantel Paintbox (mentioned elsewhere, would be really cool, with Wacom support).
Silicon Graphics Indigo (or anything better that fits)
EDIT: Another vote for 3DO!
Mentioned most of these in another thread:
SEGA System 16:
Super Hang-on
Space Harrier
Outrun
Galaxy Force
etc.
Arcade cores of things that are on the Lynx as well:
APB
Hard Drivin'
STUN Runner
QiX
Roadblasters
Toki
Ninja Gaiden (someone here told me Jotego has a board already)
Xenophobe
Xybots
Other stuff:
SEGA Monaco GP (last SEGA arcade machine without a CPU and really fun game, has Jotego's interest I've learned here, some FPGA implementations exist)
Space Panic (played that as a kid on a school outing)
Choplifter (played the VIC-20 version a lot)
Space Fury
Starcastle
Pole Position
Omega Race (also played the VIC-20 port a lot)
Tempest
Intrepid (really fun game, a bit like Elevator Action)
Lots of VFD and LCD handhelds and tabletops
Nintendo, Bandai, Casio etc. LCD games
Gakken, Bandai, Entex etc. VFD games
Obscure systems that I've never heard of, love trying them.

Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future
Sadly the Hobbyist Programme no longer provides VMS and Layered Product licenses for VAX architecture. HP sold OpenVMS to another company (VSI, VMS Software Inc.) who are only maintaining the AXP and Itanium versions.
The software installer packages aren't *too* hard to get hold of, and some disgruntled folks in the hobbyist scene released a license generator a few years back. PM if you want to know more
My MicroVAX 3100/30 is quite happily running with these since my kosher HP licenses expired.
There's also the option of running NeXTSTEP on a SPARC core:NEXT computer I think was talked about before but the conclusion is its not yet do-able probably just over the line of what the FPGA in the mister can do.. That said there is always NextStep 486 but the current A0486 core is SX only and NextStep needs a full 486 with fpu..

Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future
I'd love to see the m68k support extended to '030 with MMU and FPU, as that would unlock access to many more classic OSes (although this has been somewhat contentious with the minimig maintainers in the past, I believe).
Console-wise, I'd love to see Dreamcast, but appreciate that's highly unlikely due to its complexity. I'll hold out hope for the Saturn and Jaguar cores that are in varying degrees of development.
Arcades:
- Sega Y Board, for Powerdrift and Galaxy Force
- Atari Hard Drivin', purely for S.T.U.N. Runner
- Atari System 1, for Marble Madness and Road Blasters
- Atari Star Wars Vector, for every game ever produced for the platform

As well as:

Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future
More recent Apple II core. More recent colour 68k Mac too.
IIgs would be neat due to the additional software support etc.
32x as we have the rest of the genesis stuff.
Definitely would love a Saturn core but assuming it’s WAY up there in terms of work required due to the obfuscation, DRM, and sheer number of processsors involved in that system. I have like 4 of them in various states of disrepair.
Next cube?

Both of those use the SH-2, so it's not a far off dream as srg320 is working on the Saturn core as we speak (probably still in the real-world feasibility check stage somewhat, despite all the hard work on development, still uncertain if it will work on the platform).Yodasghost wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 5:04 pm Cps3 - Street Fighter III : 3rd Strike

Sh2 is part of the Saturn. There’s two of em plus a 68k, plus a dsp, synth (iirc) and VDP1/2... and an sh1 as a CD-ROM controller.
A lot of work

Indeed I was pretty excited when I saw srg320 announce this, Jotego also just posted that a cps3 core is doable but low priority, I'll be joining both their patreons nowaberu wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 2:26 pmBoth of those use the SH-2, so it's not a far off dream as srg320 is working on the Saturn core as we speak (probably still in the real-world feasibility check stage somewhat, despite all the hard work on development, still uncertain if it will work on the platform).Yodasghost wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 5:04 pm Cps3 - Street Fighter III : 3rd Strike

Absolutely, I wont even pretend to have the technical savvy to understand how difficult the undertaking is, I can only express my interest, and put my money in the hands of people who do. Still very exciting news that it's possible at all.
