Intel to Sell Majority Stake in Altera

Post by PistolsAtDawn »

Intel has agreed to sell a 51% stake in its Altera programmable chip business to buyout firm Silver Lake for $4.46 billion, in the first major move under new CEO Lip-Bu Tan to revive the struggling American chipmaker.

Per Reuters

I could see this impacting the price of the DE-10 Nano as well as any potential "MiSTer 2" boards.

Interesting, but shouldn't make a big difference.
The other 49% was already supposed to go to an initial public offering in order to be a publically-traded company.
While Silver Lake will hold a majority stake, they likely won't do anything to jeopardize the stock price (assuming they've already gone public).

I doubt it will change much and they are sadly still reliant on Intel for Agilex

It will be a nice write off for Intel as they paid $14 billion for Altera
