Sharing controller mappings?

I’ve been picking up quite a few USB controllers to use with my MiSTer. I’ve noticed I have to plug it in and plug it in another controller or keyboard to get to the option to Defined the buttons and directional pad on them.

Would it be possible, or would there be any value and creating a central repository of these mappings that can be embedded within the project, so a large number of controllers would not require an initial configuration?
