Xbox Wireless Adapter Driver (xow) Ready for Testing
Re: Xbox Wireless Adapter Driver (xow) Ready for Testing
Hi all,
I'm new here, just built my first MiSTer over the last few days but have been keeping an eye this project since first learning about it in Smokemonster's videos a couple of years ago in his marathon video series on the various cores at the time.
I have had one of the "fat" adapters for many years and have today received one of the newer "slim" ones. Here are my findings:
*Current release via update_all scripts
MiSTer v210109, OS v200908
-Fat - no light, can't pair
-Slim - light, can pair, works fine
*Patched linux via zImage_dtb in the repository for xow
MiSTer v210109, OS v200908 (was a little surprised, assumed there would be a date or build difference)
-Fat - light, can pair, works fine
-Slim - light, can pair, works fine
For clarity, so far I have only used an Elite Series 1 so far for testing. Both adapters and the controller were plugged into a Windows 10 system and had any updates applied via the Xbox Accessories app.
I do have a few other Xbox controllers if needed for testing at any point.

@Shrapnl, thanks for testing!
Your results look like what is expected.
The Linux kernel (zImage_dtb) is different from the MiSTer version and the menu version. I'm not sure the version appears anywhere but my custom build might not show a different version regardless.
The patched linux kernel adds support for the "fat" Xbox Adapter (as your results have shown). Once Sorgelig pushes a new release of the kernel you won't need to download the special version any longer.

Re: Xbox Wireless Adapter Driver (xow) Ready for Testing
Quick question. Does this XoW driver now come as standard with MiSTer Main, or is it still in testing? I'm considering a backup/reformat/refresh of my MiSTer for general maintenance, and figured I'd wait until XoW is ready for prime time (even though I realise it can be installed manually, having already done so in my current install). Thanks!
Re: Xbox Wireless Adapter Driver (xow) Ready for Testing
So, today, with my Mister fully up to date I finally installed this driver to test it out. My XBOne controller/chatpad/usb receiver are up to date as of today as well.
I got the controller to pair and function in general, but I thought the point of this setup was to use the chatpad keys as additional controller buttons? I can't get any chatpad keys to be recognized when defining controls in a core.
Example: Atari 5200 core
I can configure all controller buttons but can't assign chatpad number keys as the keypad for the 5200.
I have also tried with the usb compatibility mode turned on and doing a cold reboot as well as turning driver off and on again.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Sorgelig updated the linux kernel today so my custom kernel is no longer needed. However, the update script needs a change to automatically download the xow scripts but this should be implemented really soon.
Unfortunately the chatpad isn't supported in the xow driver. I've seen a few others request this too and I believe Sorgelig is also trying to work with the xow developer to help implement this.
Re: Xbox Wireless Adapter Driver (xow) Ready for Testing
Aw crap... thought that was the reason it was being added to MiSTer... I have a SNES NTT Datapad but was hoping to move to the Xbox One controller with chatpad to get WAY more inputs and still have analog sticks.
Maybe someday...

Re: Xbox Wireless Adapter Driver (xow) Ready for Testing
Bumping an old thread here to say thank you and add two questions.
1) Do we have to run “xow_on” scripts anyway or is it useless now?
2) Does anybody have experience with the Xbox Series X pad? How is the input lag?
Thanks
Re: Xbox Wireless Adapter Driver (xow) Ready for Testing
I've updated my MiSTer a few days ago and it downloaded and installed a new linux image, that's the only time i needed to run the script again.
Probably because the run on boot file got overwritten or replaced because of the new image.

Re: Xbox Wireless Adapter Driver (xow) Ready for Testing
I just updated my mister after not using it for a while. I didn't go anything special apart from running the new update_all and the wireless controllers appear to work, so thanks very much for this!
One issue I notice though is that I seem to be limited to only two controllers on SNES/Super Bomberman. I have 2 wireless and 1 wired XBox 360 controllers.
Seems to be any 2 out of 3 that will work but not all at the same time.
