Scanlines Setting Issue

Unread post by neogeo81 »

Hi guys

Does anyone know why i have such chunks of scanlines?

I am using 1080p resolution on a 4K TV.

Switching to 720p does not help as the fatter lines just get closer.

Thanks for helping out

MiSTer output is set to 1080p over HDMI (and is my native resolution for the monitor im using)
Integer scaling is set to .25 steps
vsync is set to low lag

Scandoubler FX is set to None
Scale Filter is set to Hi Res Core Filter/2x Scanlines 20%
Gamma Correction is set to Pure Gamma/gamma 110

You need to set the vscale in the mister.ini to 1 ideally. A setting of 2 or 3 might also look good on your setup. At 1080p a setting of 1 will leave a pretty large border on most games, at 720p, 1200p, or 1440p the border will be minimal (for 240p content).

Hey thanks guys. it was really the scaler setting i was missing.

My settings with my 4K TV for optimal scanlines are:

MiSTer output is set to 720p over HDMI (1080p the borders are to big)
Integer scaling is set to integer scale only
vsync is set to low lag

Scandoubler FX is set to None
Scale Filter is set to normal scanlines 25% (Hi Res Core Filter/2x Scanlines 20% are to blurry for me)
Gamma Correction is set to Poly Gamma 2.7

UPDATE

I just tried to switch to 4x3 with the resolution 1920x1440 being the best one as it has the least black bars on top and bottom.

Do you guys know why the Mister logo is cut off on the left? Can it be moved?

UPDATE 2

It seems to be a problem with my cheaper 50" 4K TV in our hobbyroom as on our 65" QLED i can set it to 1080 or 720 and the scanlines are perfect with integer scaler on.

Its very likely your cheap TV is compensating for overscan i.e. its a little zoomed in. Odds are you can turn that off somewhere so it displays all the pixels, then the scanlines should line up.

yes, what foxbat just said.
i was going to post the exact same thing, and he beat me to it :D

its more than likely the screen fill/size setting on your TV.
be sure its set to "full" or "fill the screen"
