Pixel Perfect without interpolation: possible?

Unread post by bootsector »

Hi there!

Is there a way to get full screen 720p HDMI no-shimmering pixel perfect output on MiSTer, on the NES core for example, without having to use interpolation at all? In case that's possible, what settings should I look into?

Any help is appreciated!

Cheers.

You should use vscale_mode=1 to achieve integer scale with minimal (not perceptible to my eyes) horizontal shimmering. If you still feel shimmering with integer scale, you will need to use interpolation. I recommend Gaussian_Sharp_NN_X in this case, since it applies interpolation for horizontal scaling only.

Thanks, Lancelot!

Yes, there's no way out of it. We'll need at least horizontal interpolation.

My only hope now for Pixel Perfect without interpolation is getting horizontal integer scaling + vertical cropping added to the scaler.
