Asus ProArt PA248QV monitor flickering issue

Unread post by quartzgaming »

I was testing Steel Empire with the MegaDrive and Genesis cores and I noticed that there is persistent flickering and some text burn-in when I leave the intro running for a handful of seconds. This persists when I change video source using my HDMI switch and changing resolutions or refresh rate (I think on both the PC and MiSTer side) seems to stop the screen from flickering. I haven't run into any issues with other games and my 1080 monitor was able to display Steel Empire correctly. Can someone with this monitor check to see if they have this issue as well and report back? I'm wondering if I might have gotten a defective screen

Thanks!

I don't know if i understand you correctly. But I think you are talking about image retention/persistance. My ProArt has that issue as well. So let's say I'm playing a fighting game where the power bar (which is static) is flickering. That flicker then gets stuck on my screen for a time until it goes away.

If the core supports "composite blend" (or something like that) it usually mitigates the problem. Not for everything but in some cases.

tvspelsdagboken I run a video game site (in Swedish)

yup, same here (and also on a friend's ProArt). I still haven't figured out what triggers the flicker. with most game/console/computer/arcade cores, there's no flicker. I have one AMIGA demo which triggers the flicker every time. but it goes away after, let's say, half an hour or so. I stopped worrying about it.

Thanks for the responses! I guess flickering health bars and steel empire are kind of edge cases and I'm overall happy with the monitor for the price. Thankfully I have a CRT as backup for the more flickery games
