📺 RetroTink 4K Scaler DV1 Profiles for MiSTer

Post by limi »

The RetroTink 4K is a 4K scaler that will take the native signal coming out of your console, computer or MiSTer, and scale it to 4K, with the ability to add processing to let it look like a CRT, and edge-to-edge rendering.

We have made a set of dedicated, preconfigured RetroTink 4K auto-configuring DV1 profiles for MiSTer as part of the AmigaVision project — both for the Amiga, and for the majority of console and computer cores.

We couldn't find a simple, good starting point for MiSTer setups or other setups that don't use analog inputs, so we made some. Everyone's preferences are of course different when it comes to scanlines and shadow masks and cropping, but at least this is a great starting point for DV1 and MiSTer’s digital output that you can modify to your personal taste.

If you have a RetroTink 4K, you can download the auto-configuring DV1 profiles from the Releases section, instructions on how to install are included.

The real hard work is DV1 profiles for the arcade games. Took me days to configure them.

There’s a script that makes that easy:

https://github.com/Matt-Retrogamer/mist ... -generator

Didn’t want to release all of those with this pack as you need to decide what you want as your baseline and then apply the script. But, good reminder to add that to the README. (Done)

Creation of the profiles might be easy, but configuration not. Not all arcade cores are properly DV1 supported (wrongly stretched games). Especially vertical games without correct DV1 autocrop/auto decimate support are are nightmare (e.g. the Toaplan games).

My main issue with R4K and Amiga is that I haven't found a way to automatically apply profiles when resolutions change. Does DV1-based signaling enable this?

I don't know exaclty what you mean. But every (vertically different) resolution switch allows you to save separate RT4K settings inside the profile. Just change some settings when a games switches the resolution and save the profile again.

We have saved settings for all the common resolutions in the profile, test it and let me know what you think. DV1 is unrelated to this, DV1 just makes sure it picks the correct profile when a core is loaded, so the Amiga core gets the Amiga profile, SNES gets the SNES profile, etc.
