Migrating Data From Old Forum

Unread post by ijor »

Hi,

Atari-forum is back online, but I understand the idea is to stay here at this new "home". I think it might be useful to migrate/copy the posts from atari-forum. There are quite some interesting threads even with data, there.

I might ask the atari-forum admin to provide a backup of the MiSTer subforum. Probably now he is quite busy, but I assume that sooner or later he should be able to provide. However I'm not really familiar with phpBB and have no idea how easy or difficult would be to copy the old threads here, may in a separate read only subforum would be better.

I would not expect it to be a huge issue to create a read only archive forum containing the old posts, it really depends on how Dal would feel about this as the data is part of his Atari forum, it would indeed take some effort on his part to extract the data, and of course also providing Sorgelig is happy for this to happen.

The internet archive has a copy of the old forums.. would just need to have it crawl the old forums one more time to get a more recent snapshot of it and there ya go .. its all backed up and easily accessible ..

Unfortunately it's not that easy, it took me 30 seconds to find a page that wasn't archived:

I don't think it's possible to import it from other board. It has many cross-links with thread IDs, forum IDs hardcoded for specific board.
It will require pre-process the data and somehow merge with data existing on this board.
Better to keep it on that forum as-is. Sooner or later all useful info will be available here and info on that forum will be obsolete.
MiSTer is developing platform and what was actual 2 years ago now is not relevant any more.

Well as I said .. it needs a new rescan of the old forums .. its a bit dated (march?) .. I tried to submit a request to the I.A. to rescan the forums but it wasnt working .. but if a new capture can be had at least it will be all stored online .. well it is.. its just a few months old.
