IO Board v6.0 Fan-Selection

Unread post by max1602 »

Hello dear Mister Board,
I recently acquired a 6.0 IO-Board and three fans to try out.

These are the ones:
- Sunon 5v
- Sunon 12v
- Noctua 5v

Do I have to solder to make 5v fans work in 3.3v mode on an 6.0 IO-Board?
Or is there another way to do exactly that? Is there something like a tutorial for this task? Except very general ones concerning soldering?

The Sunon-12v works in 5v mode but doesn't blow a lot of air on the heatsink and cpu just a little.
Is that too little? I mean I want to try all the cores including more demanding ones. And I want my mister to last as long as possible.

I just love it too much to make compromises 8-)

I just don't know which fan to take.
In an optimal situation I'd like to try the sunon 5v in 3.3v mode,
cause it costs a few bucks less than the noctua...

Maybe you guys can help.

Peace

Hm I think I'll just stick w the 12v sunon. Costs less and is more silent...

So noctua 5v it became. I stubbornly compared all the fans. But the noctua unsurprisingly had the most pleasant "sound" while still pushing some air on 3.3v.
So I took it. I guess in the long run w its 6 year warranty it'll serve me well altough the hmhm "CLUTTERED" boxing and too many extras I don't care about... :)

The noctua is solid. Undervolting a 12v to 5v is generally bad practice as well. Not going to be super dangerous, just can wear out their motors a lot sooner.

You made the right choice. :)
