USB Hub

Unread post by nizce »

Hi!

I just received a USB hub from Amazon, it was probably a mistake.

Didn’t look like the one shown on the product page.

It has no barrel jack, but more USB ports.

Anyone have something like this?

Guess it’s supposed to be powered via USB from the cable, the two ports to the far left is labeled pwr1 and pwr2. So I guess one of those two will power the hub.

Also I guess a USB micro to micro cable is needed between the hub and the De10.

Yes and no to the cable!

The best would be to use something like one of these two.

IF the microusb port on the hub board is in the right spot that is, but it do looks at least close to being in the right spot

I would return it to Amazon and buy from a reputable reseller.

Amazon is a listing service and not a proper store front.
There thousands of sellers on Amazon, and you probably bought from one who sells/resells boards from Alibaba/Aliexprpess

The extra USB port takes the place of the barrel jack in this picture.
It is my great regret that we live in an age that is proud of machines that think and suspicious of people who try to.

They had actually included a usb bridge board, it was so tiny i missed it :)

Thought about sending it back. But couldn’t find any sellers in EU.

I’ll try the hub out and see if it works and connect the USB on the power cable to the usb port called PWR2 on the PCB and see if it gets power.
Perhaps One cab choose to either use barrel jack or USB port when assembling the PCB.

I get all my stuff from https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/usb-hu ... ster-fpga/ but its the uk so thanks to Brexit mainland europe may have taxes to pay

Thanks!
Yeah, Brexit added some extra cost defiantly. Forgot about Brexit when I ordered a Saturn I July. VAT, Chemical taxes and other fees added 140% to the price once I received it haha.

Just tried connecting power to the PWR2 hub, a red LED on the USB Hub blinks the second I plug in the USB cable from the PSU. But doesn't seem to work.

Guess I have to return it.

Think I'll try and hunt down a regular USB Hub instead.

Thought I'd try a third time.
This time I used a little bit more force(probably too much ;)) when attaching the bridge.
And to my surprise I just saw the hub appear when running dmesg.

So all seems fine now :)

Thank you all for your tips and feedback.
