Reg's Build Thread

Unread post by Reg »

Morning All,

Hope that it's ok to post a build thread here for my records. I'll update at each state.

Building a solution to the MiSTer FPGA in a PC type case that is 100% inspired by these videos, but I want to a little more.

The case came from here.

Unlike the videos, I wanted to have larger buttons for the MiSTer. The proble with the Checkmate case that it is a work or art. It is very retro, very Amiga like nad has lovely angles on everything.

The designer was kind enough to make the .STEP files available, so using Fusion 360 it was possible to modify these.

The final print is very rough and not final as I am waiting an LCD to arrive - but first steps are promising !

The buttons came from here...

Had a chance to get back to this.

The case I am using does not have provisioning for the MiSTer FPGA so had to print a baseplate for it as well as design it.

This supports holding the device firmly in place. The little hardware module that you're seeing in the cable run for anyone that is interested is a POLOLU-2809.

The POLOLU-2809 allows the device to be powered on with a push of a button from the front of the case when wired up.

Looking good, did "um and ah" about getting a checkmate case as I wanted to have something to sit my old CRT TV on but I just couldn't do it as it is quite expensive, ended up going with a Node 202 instead and just doing a custom mount, now I'm wishing I'd gone with the Checkmate lol.

Nice 👍

Is the POLOLU-2809 not too weak?
I am looking for an similar solution but I would prefer the 2812 or 2813.

For the moment everything is fine with it and had no problems.

I'll be keeping an eye on this - never knew there were better models, I took the ones from the video I linked on the opening post.
