My little one is passively cooled, but it’s only really running PC Engine, SNES, and Genesis games. The big one has one fan, and big convection slots in the back. If I start using it for later consoles and arcade cores, then I might add more cooling as well. Or... build a third MiSTer. I just enjoy building stuff like this. :D

I’m also thinking about building one into the joystick setup I just built for arcade use. Oops, I posted the half pic. It’s actually a dual setup. I took a pic of half because I’m thinking of building a single laptop version as well.

Is that a custom build or is it available to buy somewhere? That passive case looks like the smallest integrated IO/USB MiSTer setup I've seen.

In case it is useful for anyone, here is a link to the 3d print file for the caddy I designed for my MiSTer case. I just hot glued the caddy in place and then the MiSTer can easily be inserted/removed.

Yes,it is a custom build, based on the official IO6.1,it is designed to achieve the smallest MisTer,and more easier to use。

So my trusty PS1 died. Figured it'll still serve as a nice case for the MiSTer :)
I might have to spray paint it at some point

I like where this is going. Maybe a cleaner cut under the lid?
Might be able to use some of the parts from this kit to clean up the IO. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eOFiuv2PGQ

There was another version from a different maker which was legit. I'll share if i can find it.

That is fantastic! I love the colors of the keyboard. Is that an Amiga 3000 style housing? Awesome that you have the MT32-pi and OLED TTY built in and the buttons with the colored LEDs look great as well.

Do you have a link to the USB cable you used on your MT32pi? What is that other cable connected on the top of it? Looks like it’s on the pi?

Not by it at the moment, but that I believe is the cable for the TTGO T8 V1.7.1 that I attached for "cable management" !

I don't have a link for that cable I'm afraid, it was one that was kicking around that was a suitable length.

Made a couple of MiSTer builds with Arcade1Up cabinets I found on sale:
20210531_215623.jpg
Biggest surprise was that the stock LCD is actually quite responsive (about 1/2 frame when compared to a PVM) so I went for a full mod with good quality parts (DeamonBites, Cherry switches, Sanwa sticks, etc). It's a great feeling to play on them! Now maybe one day I'll have room for an Astro City or an Egret...

My first attempt at a custom MiSTer case. I integrated the SNAC adapter with NES controller port since that is the only light gun I use and have nostalgia for. I had to do a lot of drilling of small holes and filing to get the ports right. It's not perfect, but not bad for my first attempt.

It helps to have a hole punch or awl to mark the center of your holes, a drill press and a clamp to keep things steady, and some small metal files to get the openings precise. Also, it really helped having an aluminum case that was easy to file.

If you have an sensitive surface use painter tape to keep it safe.
Make sure your drillers are not broken and sharp.
Drill small (not too small) and file it bigger.
And measure, measure, measure

Do you think you're getting proper airflow without any vents on the top portion of the case?

There are vents on both sides that seem to allow good airflow. It's been working well so far.

A friend of mine saw my little PC-Engine themed MiSTer, and mentioned how he used to love Genesis games. I decided to build him one with a Genesis theme.

Still have to finish the layout of the Ms. Pac-Man control panel and make the light up marquees. All controls have been updated with proper Sanwa/Happ parts. iPac 2 and Spinner are from Ultimarc. A proper 4 way joystick for Ms. Pac-Man and Donkey Kong makes a world of difference. The led buttons are set up to be lit at all times rather than to show disk access. They are used for OSD and soft reset/bypass buttons in control setup.
