CPS 1 Jotego's CPS1 Core - Checksum Issues [Solved]

Unread post by Spunkworks »

Hi all, congrats on the new board, it's fantastic!

I have an HP L1750 rotatable LCD screen connected to my Mister, is it possible to rotate the core to the left? that would be perfect as my screen can only be rotated to the right.

Regards

JTCPS1, Jotego's CPS1 core - checksum issues - resolved

Unread post by Rikko »

Hi all,

recently, Jotego had released an official version of his CPS1 core for MiSTer. I have trouble with running it, reporting an "MD5 mismatch for rom 0", for all the CPS1 roms that I have.

Anyone had similar experience or an advice on how to tackle this?

https://github.com/jotego/jtcps1

Cheers

I haven't had an issue so far. Here's what I did:

Make a folder named "_Arcade" in root of SD card.
Put all the CPS1 .mra files in "_Arcade" folder.
Inside "_Arcade", make a "cores" folder, as well as a "mame" folder.
Inside "cores" folder, put the CPS1 core.
Inside "mame" folder, put all the CPS1 roms from the latest merged Mame rom set. Put the zipped roms there as is, don't extract them.

Now, to run a game, I just boot my MiSTer, click on Arcade and click on one of the .mra files.

Further to above, I've tried replacing the rom files, obtained from a "confirmed" source. Still the same.
.mra files associated to the roms I'm trying to load have none set for MD5 hash. I tried adding the hash value to it, but still the same. BTW, I made sure to calculate the hash for the actual rom zip that I'm using (the "confirmed" one).

Does anyone know if there's a way to turn off the hash check?

I made another post before I saw yours. Thanks for the info. I've done basically everything that you mentioned, already. But, for the sake of making sure I'm not lost in translation, could you please elaborate on the "merged rom set"? Perhaps that's what I'm doing wrong. I didn't edit the roms, like I had to, for Ghosts 'n' Goblins arcade core, for an example.

Just use the rom from the 0.220 or 0.221 mame set.
And btw I’m always using non-merged sets, but both should probably work.

Also have you tried unplugging your MiSTer device? Sometimes MiSTer acts funny after an update.

And you can always try the RetroDriven MiSTerMame script, it pulls the right roms for you: https://github.com/RetroDriven/MiSTerMAME

I can't link to anything, but there are two kinds of mame roms, merged and non-merged. You don't need to merge them yourself or anything, they will be labelled "merged" on various websites, and you just get those roms.

Thanks for the post. Unfortunately, none of the methods suggested worked. 0.220 nor 0.221 (both merged, as per softtest9's advice), nor RetroDriven roms (I can't run the update scripts on the MiSTer, I don't have it online yet; I have downloaded the RetroDriven roms manually though). Still fails MD5 check for rom 0. :/

Are you 100% sure you are using the latest mra files.

I tend to think so, but I'll double check.

I'll also visit the noob section of the forum, perhaps I've done something wrong when setting up my MiSTer, initially.

OK, got it to work.

Having found nothing related in the n00b section, I've reinstalled the OS using the latest files. Needless to say, everything works.
I'm not certain now if it was my fiddling or did I happen to run into an incompatibilty between the older OS version and some cores. Doesn't really matter I guess.

Thank you for you help guys.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Question about the core. What is the current status of Cadillacs and Dinosaurs? I have an old .mra file of "Cadillacs and Dinosaurs -Asia TW 930223-" that seems to boot ok...

Can you be more specific what kind of information you need?
The game is playable, but at least for me it has sound issues.

Sounds like it might be a "CPS1.5" bootleg? Saw this one a while back on an owlnonymous video: https://youtu.be/TpVvB8hw7qI?t=4178

I could be wrong, but it sounds like you hadn't updated Main_MiSTer and Menu_MiSTer. Newer versions of cores tend to rely on fixes and features that get added to the framework, so it's always a good idea to get the latest versions of Main_MiSTer and Menu_MiSTer every time you get a new core or update a core.

Note that the filenames must always be MiSTer and menu.rbf respectively, without the version numbers. A full reinstall shouldn't be necessary, you can just replace the files MiSTer and menu.rbf.

Re: Hello and screen rotation

I took on a massive Mister update project last month starting from scratch. After updating, I noticed Caddies and Dinos wasn't listed so I added it from my backup- maybe it is a bootleg. I forget at the moment: Does the updater script also update Main_MiSTer and Menu_MiSTer, or even Linux files? I'm ok to do it manually if need be.

Totally agree. I was changing the SD card to larger, so I had to install from fresh anyway. I reckon I should have been more accurate in my posts. :)

Thanks for the help!
