Audio thuds/pops between cores

Hi I'm getting nasty audio thuds when I launch a core. Is this a known thing? Can I do anything to stop it happening? I'm worried it'll damage my speakers.

I have an analogue IO board v6.1 and am using the 3.5mm Audio Jack with Mini-TOSLINK and have connected it to a scarlet 2i2 audio interface that then goes out to Yamaha hs8 studio monitors.

Weird. Isn’t happening for me. I run audio through an HDMI to VGA adapter.

How is your audio hooked up?

Might be due to different default audio values - but that would make it dependent on which cores you are changing from/to.
Also, would probably depend on how loud you have the volume.

Are you using TOSLINK (optical audio)? That's a typical side effect of the signal dropping in and out, and it's not specific to MiSTer.

Same for me when the sound comes from the mini jack connector of the I/O board. It's not uncommon for a device that turns on and off to pop like this, but I have to admin that it's pretty loud with the MiSTer.

Apologies all for not explaining my audio setup.

I have an analogue IO board v6.1 and am using the 3.5mm Audio Jack with Mini-TOSLINK and have connected it to a scarlet 2i2 audio interface that then goes out to Yamaha hs8 studio monitors.

You can see the big audio pops coming into the scarlet as it's got lights on the inputs that go bright red if you have the volume turned up (75%) for say the Genesis core (another audio issue I have) but these pops are quite loud and alarming even when you have a more normal volume of say 25%.

I've read also it might also be down to incorrect earthing.

Someone else has said it doesn't happen with the digital IO board.

I thought it was normal. I always get that audio pop running from the analog IO board out to a CRT. It's also something I hear on my NES that has been modded for expansion audio.

Very prevalent on the analog IO board's analog audio jack. Switch that to use an inexpensive DAC and the optical audio (from the same jack) was a massive improvement in both reducing the "pop" and overall audio quality, highly recommended.

The "pop" varies a lot from core to core, mostly I don't notice it much anymore.
