New Retro-Bit pad - Thumsticks: yay or nay?

Unread post by JudgeDrokk »

I fancy trying this new forthcoming pad from Retro-Bit, but are the thumbsticks any use on the MiSTer FGPA?

Will anything utilise them now or in the future?

I think I'll keep my pre order 'on' then - I do like them and the sticks could prove their worth in the future! :-)

You can use the sticks for mouse emulation. Also some arcade cores use analog sticks.

I use the left stick in most games which originally had only d-pad/keyboard/joystick control. Feels way better to me, even though I know it's an anathema to many people.

You can use thumbsticks for (as someone else said) mouse emulation, you can also use it for a replacement for the d-pad (or simultaneously in most cores actually). I've also used the right analog on my dual analog device for the wonderswan core's TATE layout games.

Thumb sticks are useful now for the Apple II Core, as the Original machine only accepts analog input.
Also it's useful in twin stick games like Robotron, Smash Tv and Xeno Crisis
It is my great regret that we live in an age that is proud of machines that think and suspicious of people who try to.

You might be just the person to ask, then. Have you found *any* analog stick that allows play of Karateka on the II? When I need to run, I can't make it happen.
