Ultima 7 strange problem "GAMEDAT\ACTION.DAT" not found!

Unread post by AmintaMister »

Hi all!

I run on AO486 last version the game Ultima 7 - ExoDos version - on a fresh install of MS-DOS 6.22 with 595kb free of conventional memory and not EMM386 loaded.

So Ultima7 starts, I can insert my name and then when the game should start, I get this error:

Sorry, an error has occured.
Please write down the following
information:
File
"C:AGAMES\ULTIMA7\GAMEDAT\ACTION.DAT" not found!
Consult your manual. If the problem
persists, please call Origin Customer
Service. Me are sorry for the inconvenience
C:NGAMES ULTIMA7>

I've checked \GAMEDAT folder and it's empty BUT when I copy again all the needed files and I start again the game, I get the same error so I think the files are deleted but I don't know why...

Thanks in advance for your help!

My guess is you are using run.bat to launch the game which is an exodos script. It deletes files and puts them back based on your audio choice. I’ll bet the delete is happening and the copy is not. Probably something with your dos setup.

Compare your files to the ones in Top 300 to find the issue.

Thanks flynnsbit, that was the problem! Using the Top 300 version it works!
