This week's game is King's Valley 2 for the MSX2!

Early thoughts. This is an interesting puzzle platformer that is also pretty hard. You sort of need to figure out the stage in your head before you start anything, or you might/will get stuck with no way to finish the level. If anyone knows what key you can use to restart a level - let me know.

But it's really addictive. Even though I'm stuck on the fourth leve.l I really want to figure it out without turning to a guide.

By the way, my core was on CPU Turbo by default (or I've changed it way back) which made the game run crazy fast. So make sure yours is in Normal.

I noticed that there is a version of this for the original MSX platform as well as the MSX2. I assumed we should play the MSX2 version just because the graphics looked slightly better. Is that what you did?

I did. I also started the MSX version but quickly remembered that you decided on the MSX 2 version.

Instruction manual is here https://archive.org/details/KingsValley ... 3/mode/2up

F1 pauses. F5 suicides when you f up. Write down the codes for each level.

Really enjoying this one. Only been playing for half an hour, about to start the fourth level.

I'm playing the MSX 2 version.

I copied the settings suggested by the YouTube link that Pistols posted at the top. CPU Speed = Turbo. Slot 1 MegaSCC. Slot 2 MegaSCC 2mb. And Internal Mapper set at 4096kb. Seems to be running smoothly.

I'll see how I get on with the 4th level to know if it's running too fast.

4th was easier than third in the end. The grey walls rotate and you pass through from the lighter side.

You were definitely right. Stage 4 was much easier than 3 when I tried it a second time. I wonder how many levels there are, I'm really starting to enjoy this game :)

Yes it's good. Level 6 was a bit of a pain waiting around, hoping it's not too much more of that.

As an aside, if you're using the library linked in the YouTube clip at the top of the thread, take a look at the Knightlore remake in the same directory. It looks flipping amazing compared to the Spectrum version.

Yeah that waiting around on level 6 was a pain. I took a look at the MSX2 remake and it looks awesome! Got to try it out soon.

So it looks like there's 6 pyramids with 10 levels each.

I keep dipping into this when I get a spare moment and am currently on the 4th level in the 2nd pyramid so far.

Even though I'm not as far as you I also keep coming back. It's a great pick up and play! Solid game!

I never had the time to play this over the last week, but I still will due to the fun I see you both are having with it! The new game (Riot City) is open for play and the new core (GBA) is open for nominations!

I’m a bit late on this one, but having a 16 week old baby does make it hard to find time for gaming! I played the version with upgraded graphics and had a really great time. It’s been a long time since I’ve played a puzzle game like this (chu chu rocket). Took many attempts to figure out the strategy but it was good fun 👍 I had no idea what the MSX system was before this so I have to say trying new systems and finishing my MiSTer libraries is half the fun.

Congratulations on the baby! And yes, kids really messes with your gaming time 😀. Discovering new systems on the MiSTer is awesome. After playing Kings Valley I'm excited to play a lot more MSX.
