Comparison of 3 cheap DACs for output sound level

Unread post by willinliv »

Hi Folks, I was finding that I was having to crank my active PC speakers quite high to hear some (all?) cores, in comparison to other machines going into the speakers, so I was deliverating between getting a headphone amplifier as a pre-amp to boost the signal or improvements to the cheap DAC I was using. So I bought a couple of other cheap DACs from Amazon to test and here is what I found:

All using 5v DC input voltage. Testing on an audio recorder with the same input sensitivity for the intro sequence on the same game. dB reading based on launching the Amplify filter in Audacity to give an initial peak reading.

Prozor DAC (original) -12.399dB
Teampd DAC -6.947dB
Neoteck DAC -0.926dB

So from my testing the Neoteck has a higher volume that is also noticably more so on my setup. Hope this helps others also working on this. Best, Will
