Dual RAM Testing?

Unread post by RexMendicorvm »

I recently upgraded from having 1x128 RAM module to having 2x128 modules. Is there a way to test that both RAM modules are operating correctly and working at the same time? I believe "mem test" only tests one of the modules, right? Any info here would be appreciated. Thanks!

Play the Saturn dual core? At least you know it's working, which is better than nothing! :)

Ok, so the Saturn dual core wouldn't run at all on a single 128 stick (stupid question, I guess 😝)? It seems to run pretty well on my setup, so I guess they're both working then!

The Saturn dual Core would also run with a 32MB Ram as the second Module, so that is not a real test case.

Ok, but if there weren't any RAM in the 2nd slot, or if the RAM was bad, it wouldn't work, right?

If you have concerns just test each SDRAM stick individually using the MemTest core, in the Utility folder. You will physically need to swap the sticks over onto the primary 40 pin header.

I would have swore someone had a core for testing Dual RAM.

If the Saturn dual core works, why not run memtest to test your primary stick of RAM, turn off and switch the RAM sticks over, then run memtest again? That'll confirm the configuration and the memory.

Did you try it? Impossibly, mine says the second module runs at 150MHz with 0 errors...and I know that's absolutely not the case.

I have not received my MiSTer Pi yet which is going to be my dual ram setup. I can't find an original post for the file but I haven't put that much effort into it either.

eta: I don't see a way to view file info on the forum in order to see when/who uploaded the rbf. I don't see a way to limit posts by date range. Tried searching by name by I didn't get any results.

I don't think the second stick ram test works. It reports errors at absolutely all speeds for me.. but if I plug the module into slot 0 and use the regular memtest, it runs through at 149mhz without any issues whatsoever.

I really wouldnt trust a random rbf from Reddit. Unless you can see the source on Github you have no idea what its doing

The only reason I posted it here is because it appears to be from here
