While searching around for different bios and cartridges images I found a collection with Atari ST ports. So far all but two I've tried have worked. So I think that's pretty good news for the compatibility potential for this core. One of the images actually does the same as AvP, no video but audio. Another has a blue screen, which would have been the background in the game, but apart from that, only audio. Maybe this is a useful bit of information to know or maybe it isn't. Anyway, I thought they were worth trying out as I thought if we'd see any glitches, it would be more likely with the ST ports.

So I got Audio on AvP but no video, same as with the old core. Tried all the settings. Other games work. Tried different displays, different Roms and Bioses. Can't figure it out!

Any ideas guys?

This is me trying the new build posted above with latest unstable main. Using dual 3.0 sticks in a Mister Pi full kit. Cybermorph works great, AvP I can hear game audio but see nothing.

I have my dipswitch set to off because that seems to be what is recommended for 9.2 I/O, and as mentioned, cybermorph runs great like that.

Can people post if AvP is working, and include their hardware setup?

Code: Select all

AvP works?	No
FPGA model:	MiSTER Pi (Taki)
SDRAM 1:	128MB 3.0 EtronTech (Taki)
SDRAM 2:	128MB 2.5 Alliance

I just discovered Trevor McFur loads to a black screen too. I know not many would lose sleep over this but that's what I've found. The only game that feels a bit weird is Rayman when there's a lot of sprites and there's a screen transition. From memory as I don't have a real cart to test, the slow down is maybe 40% more pronounced than it normally is but certainly not game breaking.

Its an experimental core so will behave strangley. Please dont assume its 1:1 with the real jag

There is something like 10+ different builds available of the core and finding one that AvP works with is just a case of trial and error.

There seems no pattern in combination of SDram at present. I can get AVP to run rev 8 and others can't but have success with revisions I don't

The core is also slower than real hardware at present

So, regarding AvP, are we saying that it's not a hardware issue? If I have the same game dump and core build that works for someone else, it should work for me as well, right? I'd like to test that theory. :-)

Jaguar_Rework_dualram_20241113.rbf	09b30bd84708c5e4bdc8c81941edac04

This one is suddenly working for me, although there is some artifacting.

I think everyone knows this is an experimental core. I'm just posting my experience with it, as are others and seeing if there's a common thread. Things like RAM set up and running images/bioses. So if for example someone tries Trevor McFur and they have AvP working on their setup, if they report it works/doesn't work then I can try and determine if it's a cart image issue or something particular to my setup. Basically I/we are experimenting with the core.

This is every Jaguar core that has been posted thus far.

If folks are looking for one that runs Aliens Vs Predator, there may be a build in here that works.

Just received my 128mb module so I'm running 128/64 dual RAM. Still no luck with AvP for me though I see that BabaYaga326 has uploaded a collection of cores to try, so maybe one will get me up and running.

Here's my setup in case it's useful.

Code: Select all

  AvP Works? No
  FPGA Model: DE10 Nano
  SDRAM 1: 128 2.9 Alliance
  SDRAM 2: 64 2.2 EtronTech

It's a bit esoteric, bit of a long story as to why but hopefully soon I will get a second 128mb module.

In game so you can see I'm not faking it with my real Jag... (ignore the blue speckles, it's a problem with my HDMI splitter!)

I guess it's basically "HAPPY RETIREMENT" for my Jaguar console now! :D It can go back in it's box for safe keeping :D

My mister pi was just shipped,

I still have the 128mb ram 2.5v from previous mister kit which my de10 nano died months ago, I ask:

is it compatible if I use a 2.5 version ram module with a 3.0 version ram which comes with the mister pi turbo? Both 128mb.

Yes you can use that. I run a 2.9 as main and the 2.5 as secondary. Its best to use the newer chip as main

11/12 core also got AvP and Trevor McFur working for me on Mister Pi, which were failing on 11/18. Save support also works "internally" but doesn't seem to interface with SD card, so its wiped on changing carts. Guess that's how it goes with unstable core, reversions here and there!

I found out the hard way that's saves don't persist :D Hopefully saving will be implemented soon. I think even if the core doesn't change much for a long while, it's performance is "good enough" for me to enjoy my favourite titles. If only saving worked right now my Jaguar would be neatly packed away in its box. I have a feeling that it won't be long until it is.
