The world's first affordable FPGA gaming console. Inspired by the PS one. Supports PS1 games, memory cards, and controllers. Analog/Digital output. NFC/WiFi/BT. MiSTer FPGA compatible. Disc support not pictured.

Pricing starts at $149 for founders and friends.

Base IO (the unit you see in this picture):

2 PSX controller ports, 2 PSX memory card ports, 1 YC for lightgun, Micro SD, 3 USB Type A, 1 Type C for power, HDMI, DIN10, VGA, Component, Composite, Ethernet, 3.5mm analog audio, and TOSLINK digital audio.

Expansion slot on bottom.

Very impressive. At 149$ it's a steal, and even up to 200$ or thereabouts I bet it will sell like hot cakes.

Really looking forward to seeing a finished product. Taki is really, really awful at naming his devices though, it is baffling.

Certainly this one is better named than MiSTer Pi.

So I guess...

PS One = R One
Megdrive = R Drive
Super Nintendo = R Super
etc...

Assuming he plans to make a separate one for each sytem.

If you look at the bottom of the image, the device is apparently named the "SS One". The "R" is the company logo (Retro Remake).

You are right. So it’s Sega Saturn One :P

Looks like it is only a code name and won’t be used as the name:

If its running Robert's core I hope he is getting a contribution for each one sold.

I see it as a customised Mister in the shape of Playstation. I certainly agree that the developers should see some benefit from all this, not only for this product but for all the vendors selling their own versions.

While that'd be great and all, is that how the core's code is licensed?

The core is licensed under GNU General Public License v2.0 (https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/PSX_MiS ... in/LICENSE). This means it may be run for all purposes, including commercial purposes. This means that Taki Udon doesn't have any obligation to compensate the Devs actually.

Does MisterAddons send money to Robert for each unit sold? Does UltimateMiSTer? How about MiSTerFPGA.co.uk? (although I’m sure they were all Patreon members at the time when he had an active one :)

This is not how it works. It’s all open source under GPL2. Anyone can build and sell a MiSTer setup, that’s the point.

Many others have made MiSTer-related hardware without facing compensation demands. This "PSone" is a MiSTer in a sleek form factor and is not locked down in any way. It's looking really good and I might buy one.

I didn't read your comment as demanding they get compensation

Yeah I dont think anyone is making demands, but the suggestion goes against the licensing requirements.

So while it'd be nice (and honestly, i think he does deserve... something) Robert knows how he licensed his own code.

And that makes him a legend in its own right!

TimeExtension has an interview with Taki Udon regarding this and upcoming projects. Apparently, a cartridge-based one is also in the pipeline. And the handheld is still a thing.

Is there any information out there how the SuperDock is going to work? I thought MiSTer isn't supporting USB CD/DVD drives...

We raise hopes here...until they're old enough to fend for themselves.

USB CD/DVD drives work just fine but the cores need lower-level access to read the games directly, something that is not possible with the DE10-Nano and USB drives. Instead, this dock is effectively dumping your games to on-board storage and pointing the core to the image. When you re-insert the disc a quick look up is performed and it boots the disc image. Zaparoo can already launch games this way.

For now, we've not seen what this interface looks like (or a full image of the dock yet).

So no loading / seeking sounds from the drive while I’m playing? I gotta be honest that the nostalgia of those disc drive sounds is a huge part of why I’d consider getting one.

Yep. It just spins the disc initially to identify it and then loads the image from local storage, same as Zaparoo. Taki has said there are no plans to fork the cores and as far as we know SuperStation is the guts of a DE10-Nano reimplemented on a single board with an injection moulded case and ports for PS1 peripherals over SNAC.

The preorders went live not long ago. I was tempted, but other bits and pieces I wanted are now sold out and paying 30USD delivery just for the "SuperStation" cooled me down a bit (and, it's not ready yet, apperently will ship "Q3 2025 or earlier"). Still, at 150$ it's quite a deal - the normal price is set for 225$. If it was to be my 1st MiSTer, I wouldn't hesitate.

Apart from the cracking overall design, I'm also quite fascinated by the wealth of CRT-related connections - it seems SS covers all the bases (VGA, DIN10, Composite / RCA, Component) without the need for extra dongles. It will be interesting to see how well it works in practice.

True. The worst case could be to pay another 30$ for shipping for the 35-40$ Docking Device. I have more the problem, that i want the signatures but also like the clear blue shell. Not so easy at all.

It took me a while to decide and when I wanted to buy it it was sold out, it was still available 10 minutes earlier.
I ended buying the non founders edition 30$ more expensive.
I will sell the mister pi once I receive it.
