Using "vscale_border" for cores that are cut off on a CRT

Post by darkwombat »

Most of my arcade cores that work correctly on my CRT are cut off equally on all sides. It’s not a lot but enough to notice.
I did some research, and it seems like "vscale_border" is the answer here, but I can't get it to work. Is this another case of arcade cores that can't be changed because you are running through a CRT and not HDMI?

Here is what I added to the end of the mister.ini:

[Gauntlet]
vscale_border=24

I also tried lowercase:

[gauntlet]
vscale_border=24

Any advice would help.
Thanks!

For CRT's you typically don't want to use the scaler. In order to use vscale_border, you would need to enable the scaler. What you should do instead is go into the service menu of your TV and resize it there, if it has a service menu or any adjustment knobs for it (not sure what CRT you have, so I can't give specifics). Before you make any changes to the service menu, write down all the values so if you screw it up, you can put it back.

I think he's referring to the Commodore 1702 monitor. Far as I know this model doesn't have a service menu or outside knobs for tweaking the size, so the only option is to open it up and adjust the pots. That can be risky business if you are not experienced with this sort of thing.

Another thing is that a lot of arcade cores display in unusual resolution, so perhaps best check that things really need adjusting by using 240p suite for some more common consoles.

He's probably talking about the Commodore 1702 monitor. As far as I'm aware, the only way to adjust the size on this model is to open it up because it lacks an external knob or service menu.
