Hi All,

MSX proposed this application sofarun (https://www.louthrax.net/mgr/) to launch games by using a game pad. It is very useful.

MSX comes with different support to play games radio cassette, floppy disk, cartridges with several mappers and hdd installation.
MSX Core supported them.

So this topic will be used to help/share the correct configuration to play games. There is a lot of configuration possibles in sofarun !!!

First sharing is to play Metal Gear cartridge rom and save with game master 2 on Sofarun.
  • Normally Metal Gear used a radio cassette to save the state on game.
  • With Sofarun with have an option to use Game Master 2 to be able save state on Metal Gear without radio cassette.
  • This mode works with most of Konami Games released on MSX.
  • The steps to follow:
1- Download SofaRun from here: https://www.louthrax.net/mgr/
2- Extract and copy it to A:\SOFARUN on the MSX VHD
3- On the MiSTer MSX core, run A:\SOFARUN\sr.com. You could add also in your autoexec.bat.
4- Select the Metal Gear ROM
5- Select "Settings"
6- Set the "Game Master" option to this value "Game Master 2"
7- Select "Apply"
8- Select "Start"
9- You will see the Game Master menu and select "Game"
10- Once in the game you have to hit "End" to pause execution on your keyboard
11- Hit also the left "Ctrl" key to bring up the Game Master in-game menu
12- Choose "Disk Save" then "Game Data"
13- Enter a file name, hit enter, and wait the menu to appear again.
14- Exit the menu and hit "End" again to unpause execution
15- Repeat the "10 step" to load/to save your state on Metal Gear.

Please be free to share or ask request if you have issue to play games on Sofarun with MSX Core.

I also created a clean 2GigaByte VHD image for people to create their own VHD. Send me a PM for the link. It just had the BIOS and Nextor on it.
