How long does Windows 95 take to boot for the first time?

Unread post by RalphJB »

Hi all,

I've just done a clean install of Windows 95 OSR 2, and I have booted it for the first time. It is currently stuck on the "getting ready to run windows 95 for the first time..." screen and is still there an hour later. Can anyone tell me how long it usually takes? The windows icon is moving so that means it isn't frozen but is it normal for it to take this long to boot?

Edit: I fixed it. Nevermind.

How did you fix it? I had this issue when I tried to use the pre-configured Win95 VHD.

I'm guessing it's related to the CD ROM updates in Main and ao486. Check this thread for solutions: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1232

Some folks have luck putting VHDs in every IDE slot. I didn't and wrote up a full 'how to' on getting Win95 running.
