And here is the app I use to convert them to dos/windows boot logos. Just make sure they are in the root of C: and named logo.sys. http://www.xrx.ca/logoutils/
Use the XRX Add Bar Utility to create them.

Not sure, as far as I understand it AO486 is not based on an Intel 486, but on an FPGA Implementation of Bochs.

Sure - but Altera was bought by intel - so the main component in MiSTer is produced by intel now.
