Slowdown in Sonic 1 SMS in NTSC, Not in PAL. Is it Normal?

In the old days i played sonic 1, a fair bit. Since mine mastersystem 2 needs a recap, away mister goes.
I played in pal, and i can not remember ,slowdows in the game. I like the benefit of ntsc, 60 frames a second.
Noticed quote alot of slowdowns in the bridge level. When the hornet strings, or when walking on the faling bridge platforms.
Later on in jungle, it is the same.

I have world rom, an when slecting pal, i do not have slowdows, but even so a little slower gameplay.

Is of normale to have such slowdowns in ntsc? , i never played it in ntsc as a kid.
Tried diffrent roms, same problem. Iam on latest main and core.

Thanks you!

Slowdown in SMS games is not exactly uncommon, especially when you have a fast game like Sonic. Sonic 1 on Genesis even had slowdown and Genesis has a much faster CPU than the SMS.

The PAL version has to only spit out 50 frames on near the same clocks vs. 60 for NTSC. So yes the PAL version should have less stutter and be a smoother experience because its asking less of the hardware.

I fired this up on my region-modded PAL Mega Drive, I found there was slowdown on the Bridge running at both 50 and 60Hz, but I think it was worse at 60. The first hornet caused noticeable slowdown on NTSC but only a little if any on PAL. The falling bridge caused slowdown either way.
