congif. keyb. for 1p, 2p and start?

Hi,
Just got my mister up and running, with 128mb ram,official usb hub and 256gb sdcard. Have installed the image and run update_all.sh.
Connected keyboard, USB 2-button joystick, and PC monitor using hdmi cable and turned it on.
How do I configure the keyboard in the arcade cores to be able to choose 1P, 2P and START if my joystick only has 2 buttons? Im not sure what to do (using Donkey Kong as an example). I've already configured the joystick for up,down,left,right and fire.
Feel like an idiot for asking this. :/
I thought it would be like MAME with 1,2 and 5 on the keyboard for 1P,2P and Insert Coin, but doesn't seem like it.
