Very Soft Audio With MegaCD Core

Unread post by retro »

Is anyone else experiencing very very soft audio with the MegaCD core?

This only occurs with FMV sequences and CD redbook audio.

Volume is normal otherwise.

I have the Yamaha chipset set to YM2612, Hi-Fi PCM is enabled, and stereo mix is 0%. MegaCD core is already at the most updated version (MegaCD_20220326) as of time of writing.

Please advice.

Thank you.

Im assuming you have done 2 things
1. Checked the core voume from the settings page (if you back from the core menu)
2. Tried Alternate dumps of the afftected games..

What games exhibit this, Id be curious to test as well but have not noticed audio issues with games like Lunar which use cd audio and have fmv.

The Sega CD Model 1 had quieter PCM and CD-DA than the Sega CD Model 2. Try switching the audio filtering, but the full difference isn't made up for in the core completely I believe.

Switching to YM3848 does not affect the audio :(

Upon further testing, I found this issue to be a problem only with the Make My Video, American Laser Games, Sega TruVideo Productions, and Digital Pictures titles.

Is this a common thing with real hardware as well?
