Documentation/Information on External Storage Setup

Unread post by fignutz »

I was originally planning on using a 1TB MicroSD Card for my new MiSTer setup, but it turned out to have issues (yet unknown). I'm still learning the setup/operation of this project, but have been finding information that can be a bit out of date with current practice. Is there a recent guide/tutorial/document/etc. that explains the current/proper way to extend storage space with an external USB drive?

Its fairly simple

First format the external ssd in ExfAt32 so you dont have case sensitivity issues
Copy the /games folder to the sdd

Thats it. The Mister will look at the SSD first then the SD card.

I am using NTFS on an external hard drive, the directory structure is like this on the root of my drive:

PSX
MegaCD
TGFX16-CD

with no "games" folder on the hard drive, and the names of the directories matching how they are on the SD card, and the matching directories on the SD are empty.

If you have the BIOS files on the SD card it will only look on the SD card for the games, BTW it was said that you could set up "symlinks" to help with the BIOS problem.
