Cannot Run Japanese Games No Problem With EU and US

I cannot get Japanese games to run and have tried multiple versions of the bios.
There is no issue with US and EU games.
When I load a Japanese game, the screen doesn't show 'ED' which is supposed to indicate a bios problem - it is just a black screen
Could anyone advise please?

Please check your boot1.rom:
boot.rom => US BIOS
boot1.rom => JP BIOS
boot2.rom => EU BIOS
your boot.rom and boot2.rom seem to be ok
You can also try to force the system type to NTSC-U and see if it works then.
This would prove it's the bios file.

Thank you for the reply. I have all the boot roms. I have even tried different versions of the JP bios. It didnt work with NTSC-U either. I presume that they do work but I don't even get the 'ED' in the top left corner just a black screen. What else could it be please?

If US and EU work, then nothing, only BIOS.
I don't see why setting it to NTSC-U doesn't work, when playing NTSC-U games with auto select works...
It cannot even be the game itself if you get the instant ED.
My recommendation is to delete everything psx related on the sd card and run the update script, which is proven to work...

I cant Japanese games to run at all sadly - I don't get the ED at all - the screen is just black

Are you using Redump or some other romset?

Thank you for the reply - it is another romset - does it need to be redump?

Redump is a sort of a gold standard when it comes to CD game rips, so when you're troubleshooting something as elusive as your problem it's worth checking this angle too. Just get one or two games from there and see what happens.
