Just add the hack rom to a file named "truxton2e.zip" in games/mame folder and add the .mra in _Arcade:

Pretty sure you asked somewhere else, I'll do a patched MRA with the update coming tomorrow or Thursday.

Thanks for the update.
The update all did not download the truxon2n.zip and applying the patch seems not to be an easy thing.
The patch has to be applied to a rom and truxon2.zip is not the rom but contains the bit and pieces necessary to build the rom on the fly.
The way I see it would be to unzip truxon2.zip, build the rom like in the old times (pre mra times) using the information in the mra, apply the patch, take apart the rom to get back the bits and pieces and re-zip the whole thing. Is this correct?

atrac17, the update all script still didn't grab the truxton2n rom. I did a search for the rom in the usual places and can't find it anywhere

I think I figured it out. Sometimes one has to read carefully what is on https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/5707/:
It says Patch to ‘tp024_1.bin’.
What I said in my previous post is almost exact, the difference is that there is no need to create the rom, just patch the tp024_1.bin file.
Unzip truxon2.zip, apply the patch and re-zip to truxton2n.zip
