How to hit the HELP key or key to "left" of HELP key for MIDI support?

Unread post by goroth »

Some games require the user to hit the HELP key or the key to the "left" of the HELP key to setup MIDI.

Here is the SHARP keyboard layout and you can see the HELP key in top right.

I have the standard 104-key US QWERYT keyboard.

Does anyone know how to hit this key on the keyboard?
I have seen some users suggest using the "virtual" keyboard by right mouse clicking but I have tried 5 different mice and none of them show a virtual keyboard when I right click (second mouse button?).

This talks about the keyboard settings with slide switches which I assume are the switches on top of the Mister but not really sure which ones to set for the 104 keyboard.
Do I set it for the JP keyboard functions (6 OFF, 5 OFF) default right now, or do I set it for US keyboard function (6 ON, 5 ON)?

This says to review the keymap.xlsx which does not have the HELP but I think the key to the left of BREAK key is HELP? Which on the 104 keyboard is the SCROLL LOCK key but that does noting in the games / emulator.

It works for me, but only in the OS, not games. Though, I use CRT modelines for games, so maybe it disappears for that reason and is actually visible on HDMI or 31kHz VGA. I just press the right mouse button and a small keyboard appears.

Thanks for posting such detailed info about the problem i've dealing with, for some months.. (with no solution so far)

I'd use HELP key to change videomodes.

Its weird that a key that has many important functions is not mapped or made easily accesible.

I don't think the official MiSTer port supports it yet, but the original puu version does support changing keycodes.
Please change the setting from OSD. There is a mode for normal use with US104 keys and a mode for supplementing the shortfall. The HELP key is assigned to the lower right "MENU" key in US Alt mode.
Please refer to the following blog for the latest version of RTL.

Hi Puu
Is it possible to add HDS support to the X68000 core for mister? Thank you so much for this core.
