Cores with Music Libraries

Unread post by cathrynmataga »

I've been playing with snd_play.prg on Atari St which has a decent large collection of music for this program. Lot of it isn't so great, but I'm just browsing now, maybe there are some gems in here. I'm also aware of mod files for Amiga, and there's a large archive of these. What other cores have interesting, non-mainstream collections of music. Mostly interested in non-mp3/wav, non-midi music. The quirkier and retro-ier the better.

Here are obvious links I just know of. But I'm not sure, are there music archives for the Japanese cores or the TRS-80 varients? I googled for TI-99/4a music, and didn't find all that much.

MegaAGS includes a curated set of Mod files and music made with other trackers/players on the Amiga. The easiest way to browse them is to exit to Workbench from the launcher, and start DeliTracker, which handles most of the exotic formats.

It’s a bit less intimidating than to browse Mod archives, since those are usually very large and of very variable quality.

Thanks, will take your advice. These collections do err on the side of over-completeness.

Found delitracker here.

x68000 has some beefy FM audio and it seems some music collections have been made for it.

I did find one for X68000 under the name nfggames, going to see if I can get it working. I did get MegaAgs working, going through some of the music now. This is pretty nice. I think I may need better speakers for my Mister setup though.

Is networking better on the Amiga core now? Ethernet?

No ethernet, but you can "hack" the PPP connection to work at 230400 baud (more info here: https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_M ... connection). And yes, IMP works nice on Amiga core, been using it for a while.

Other than that, you can try MGS Player under MSX2 (OCM based) core. You can get the player from here https://msxhub.com/MGSP and put it on your MSX VHD. There are ready made packs with MGS songs, you can check how it looks/sounds here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlsA5j7DGeo
